Season Opening Loss to AOF

The Westminster JV Boys Soccer team suffered a heavy defeat to neighbors, Avon Old Farms School. The Martlets scored with a fine header from Jin Lee ‘24 who showed excellent timing in the box to nod the ball past the Avon keeper. Captain Christian Yalda’22 further grew into his role as a leader both on and off the field. Christian thoroughly leads by example, encouraging his team mates and embodying the Westminster ethos. Christian is always willing to put in the extra sprint or throw his body into the tackle. Leonardo DiStefano ‘24 is proving to be a rugged operator with a boundless work ethic. Leo fights hard for his team in every situation, and his quick feet kept him out of trouble on many occasions. Jake Timone ‘25 is a useful addition to the forward line with an uncanny ability to keep the ball in tight areas. Jake earned the team a number of free kicks with his direct running and the ever present threat he offered. The team played through a number of injuries and thanks should go to the trainer, Francesca, for keeping the team on their feet. This was a chastening experience for the squad but they are here to learn from days like today and emerge stronger tomorrow.
