Martlets Show Competitive Will in W
After coasting through the opening three games, the Martlets found themselves on their heels after a quick start from a skilled and well-coached Taft squad. After a see-saw start left the team down as far as 5-2 midway through the second period, Susie Mahoney '20, Lily Marvin '22, Mckenzie Bloom '23 and goalie Ava Lynch '23 steadied the ship with several strong effort plays and timely saves to work their way back to a 5-5 tie headed into the final frame. From that point forward, the Westminster team could not be slowed. From the opening faceoff, the line of Mahoney, Marvin and Dylan Bloom '23 brought an onslaught of offensive pressure putting in three goals before the Taft team could answer, while stalwart defensive play by Caroline McDermott '20, Annie O'Shea '22 and Lucy Jones '21 kept any Taft counterattack at bay. Four-on-four play gave the squad some space to put the game out of reach in the closing minutes, finalizing a strong team effort in the come-from-behind win. The squad will look forward to keeping their modest winning streak alive against Hotchkiss Saturday.
