Westminster Opens Season with Victories over Loomis and Taft

The Martlets opened the 2019-2020 squash season with two wins over solid opponents. Against Taft, Westminster dropped matches at Nos. 1-3, but swept 4-9 en route to a gritty 4-3 win. Strong performances were turned in by Wheatley Sutro '22, Diana Tsibikova '21, Sasha van Vredenburch '21, Elise Strawbridge '22, Kristina Oganyan '22 and Sofia Daniele '22. Sutro won in four games, Tsibikova in five games while van Vredenburch, Oganyan and Daniele won in three. The Loomis matchup while one-sided, saw some excellent matchups. Georgia Nolan '20 playing No. 1 for the first time, came roaring back from two games down to prevail 11-9 in the fifth game. Daniela Mays-Sanchez ’20 also won at No. 2. The team will focus on improvement over the next week before returning to action on Jan. 11 when it hosts Westover.
