Adorno Leads Martlets to Win Over Canterbury

Callista Adorno '22 allowed just three base hits over five innings as the Martlets defeated Canterbury at home. Adorno also sparked the team at the plate by doubling to lead off the first inning. Hailey Tullo '22 followed with a single to drive in a run. Gabby Nemarich '20 then doubled and Westminster had a quick 3-0 advantage. In the second frame, Adorno singled and Tullo was hit by a pitch. Mandy Busky '21 then brought Adorno home with a base hit. Nemarich was hit by a pitch, and Alayna Tawney '19 and Abby Munger '20 drew walks. Bethany Winters '20 then drove the ball to left field for a base hit, and the Martlets led 8-0. During the third and fourth innings, Canterbury pitched effectively and fielded well to keep Westminster scoreless. In the top of the fourth, the Saints' Autumn Mish doubled to score a run. However, Adorno retired the last six Canterbury batters to secure the win for the Black and Gold. In the bottom of the fifth, Adorno walked and Busky singled sharply to left field. Nemarich followed with an infield hit to score a run. Tawney then drove the ball up the middle, scoring two runs to end the game. Defensively, Adorno fielded her position well with five putouts. Busky was again strong behind the plate, and Tullo had a very solid game at first base. Tawney made the finest play of the day, catching a hard-hit line drive to centerfield with a runner on base in the first inning.
