An Aerial Dogfight

The Martlets flew north to hunt down the Eagles soaring above Deerfield, Massachusetts on Dec. 1, feetless talons eager to sink into their Eaglebrook contenders. Hunter “Blonde Elvis” Hoogkamp ‘21 took the lead on the court, commanding the offense and moving the ball with ease right out of the gate. Fresh off the soccer field, sophomore Lucas “Premier League” Wahlberg ‘21 made healthy use of both his size and speed in the first half to set a towering stage for the Third Boys’ Basketball defense, an impressive performance for his first steps on the court. Flying high above the Eagles, the Martlets lay in wait, studying the opposing offense as the first half ended with Eaglebrook leading 20-9. Crashing down like a band of hail in the summer, Westminster froze its defensive position and held Eaglebrook to just a single basket in the first six minutes of the second half as Hoogkamp and Ben “Quad Squad Prince” Mihailovich ‘22 closed the gap while Baker “The Chef” Morton ‘22 cooked up a fresh batch of defensive vigor. With just minutes remaining, the Martlets were within three points of victory, 28-25. Though a last minute jump shot ended the game with the Eagles on top, it was clear that the future is bright for the Martlets as they look towards a showdown against the Tigers of Suffield next Wednesday.
