Martlets Fall to St. George's
The Westminster Swim/Dive team had a strong and energetic start to the 2023-2024 season. The Girls’ and Boys’ teams were tremendously led throughout the meet by captains Hayden Schendier ‘25, Margee Mahoney ‘24, Grace Tyler ‘24, Madison Khuu ‘24, and Nolan Styspeck ‘25. On the girls’ side, Grace Tyler shined in the difficult task of completing the 100 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle back-to-back. Tyler scored first in both events for the Martlets with a time of 59.16 in the 100 Freestyle and 6:09.19 in the 500 Freestyle. Other standouts of the meet included Jennifer Weber ‘26 who scored second in the 100 Butterfly in a time of 1:10.12. Fundee Tongtip ‘24 also had a fantastic 200 I.M. scoring second place for the Girls’ and swimming a time of 2:50.25.
On the diving side, Cecily Belford ‘24 scored second place with 166.45 points and Margee Mahoney scored third place with 127.25 points.
The Boys’ team also had a phenomenal start to the season with some incredible finishes overall. Will Larock ‘26 won the 200 Freestyle by 14 seconds in a time of 2:01.18. Larock also scored second in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:31.65. John Dwyer ‘26 won both his events, the 200 I.M. (2:02.32) and 100 Backstroke (55.51). In his debut as a Martlet, Reggie Kanu ‘25 also won both of his events for the Martlets, swimming a tremendous time of 22.23 in the 50 Freestyle and 1:05.27 in the 100 Breaststroke.
Finally, an immense congratulations and welcome to all swimmers who completed in their first swim meet as a Westminster Matlet - Caroline Hebbeler ‘27, Melody Al-Min Stewart ‘27 (who scored third in the 50 Freestyle in a time of 32.12), Savannah Griffith ‘27 (who stepped up to swim two individual events in her first ever swim meet) George Baird ‘26, Matthew Gregoski ‘27, Sam Hyde ‘25, and Matthew O’Connell ‘25.
