Martlets Defeat Bears to End Season

And just like that, another season in the books for the boys’ tennis squad. The team took on the traveling Berkshire Bears at home on a hot, humid hump day and provided some good spirit on the finale. Co-captains Will Whiting ‘24 and David Suit ‘24 got off to a strong start at #1 and never looked back, claiming the pro set 8-2. The #3 team of Will Henry ‘26 and Finn Hocking ‘26 looked a little sluggish to start, let's blame the heat, but gained separation towards the end and secured the doubles point winning 8-4. Meanwhile at #2, Logan Sun ‘24 and Alex Chen ‘24 teamed up one more time in what was an entertaining battle, but dropped it 8-6 to a steady Berkshire duo. In the #4 exhibition slot were Alexei Kocatas ‘25 and Henry Flaton ‘24, who easily drew the biggest friend crowd of the day. After being down 4-1, the fifth formers came back to claim it 8-5! Nice comeback for a doubles finale. In singles, more of the same nearly across the board with abbreviated scoring because of heat. Suit, Whiting, Liam Hibbard ‘27 and Hugh Olson ‘25 won in routine fashion, with Sun following it up with a great 8-3 victory of his own. Although Chen fell at the #4 spot 8-5, the four graduating members of the team have competed across three spring seasons, gathering 34 combined wins, victories against league winners, back to back New England appearances, and an amazing legacy across the board. We are excited about the up and coming crop, but will miss this crew immensely as they move on in their journeys. Thank you all for tuning in, and see you next spring!
