Martlets Fall to Berkshire

On a very hot spring afternoon, the martlets took to our courts for the final time this season. We sent out the doubles first, along with 2 and 6 singles. At #3 doubles, Cole Hadden ‘26 and Connor Gray ‘26 started very slowly going down 5-0 quickly, but fought back to end with a competitive 8-5 loss. Crosby Cutler ‘27 and Xavier Kahn ‘27 started faster than their opponents but their opponents raced back to close out a 8-5 win as well. The doubles point was sealed to the visitors. Meanwhile at #1 doubles, Jack Pickett ‘26 and Robert Yalda ‘24 went down a double break 1-4, before rattling off 6 games in a row to lead 7-4. As Yalda was serving to try and win the match at 7-5, Jack fell and hurt his ankle. After a medical timeout, he was able to finish the last point to seal the 8-5 win. A nice end to the season for one of our seniors to end with a win. In singles, Caden Cramer ‘27 had many competitive points at #6 singles but dropped his match 8-4. At #2 singles, Daniel Frid ‘27 played a great match and won 8-4. He was one of our most consistent players all season and that showed during this match. 2-1 Berkshire after round 1. Going into the second round, 4 singles matches remained. Unfortunately, the heat became too much for some of the Martlets who dropped these four matches in quick fashion. At #1, Jack Pickett fought valiantly despite his ankle injury from doubles, but did not have enough to overcome a solid opponent. At #3,4 and 5 singles respectively, Crosby Cutler ‘27, Cole Hadden ‘26, and Connor Gray ‘26, all had tough opponents and could not get much going due to the heat and the sun. Cupcakes and gatorades were a nice highlight to the match. Although we were all hoping to end the season with a win, the team was a pleasure to work with all season.
