Exciting Back and Forth

The Martlets earned their first victory on Harrison Field after beating Suffield 9-8 in an exciting back and forth contest. The Martlets scored the first goal of the game after Caroline Pokorny ‘26 picked up a ground ball and netted it past Suffield’s goalkeeper. Delia Lockwood ‘26 netted the second goal of the game off of a beautiful assist from Kate Epke ‘27. Suffield answered and scored their first goal of the game in transition resulting in a 2-1 contest headed into the second quarter. Suffield came out strong in the second quarter scoring three consecutive goals. The Martlets answered by going into a new defensive set and scored three consecutive goals of their own, leading 5-4 at half time. Goal scorers in the second quarter were Parker Perrillo ‘26 (2G) and Alex Musser ‘26 (3G). Kate Epke dished out her second assist of the game  to Perillo on Perillo’s first goal,   and Schuyler Groves ‘27  assisted  Perillo’s second goal of the quarter. Suffield started off the third quarter by scoring another transition goal. The Martlets responded when Musser scored her second goal of the game off of a drive to the cage. Suffield found success on the draw circle towards the end of the third quarter, maintaining possession in their offensive zone and scoring two goals off of 8 meter penalties to send them up by one headed into the third quarter. The Martlets persevered through the Tiger’s run and after allowing Suffield to score the first goal of the fourth quarter they found themselves down by 2 goals, but determined to climb ahead they responded by scoring the final three goals of the game. Alex musser scored her third goal of the game off an 8 meter shot and Liza Merrill ‘25 scored two goals in the final quarter of the game;  one off an assist from Perillo and one from an 8 meter securing the Martlet’s 9- 8 win. Margaret Dilks led a successful Martlet defense and finished the day with 5 caused turn-overs and 5 ground balls. Tilly lynch ‘25 also had a caused turnover. Schuyler Groves had a caused turnover and two ground balls. Caroline Pokorny played a key role in maintaining Martlet possession on the offensive end earning 8 ground balls on the day. Liza Merrill played a key role on the draw circle finishing the game with 7 DC. Margee Mahoney had two draw controls while Musser finished the game winning three draws. The Martlets look to host Founder’s League rival Ethel Walker back on Harrison Field on Friday night.
