Consistent Play for the Win

Westminster earned another win on the road as they traveled north to Northfield Mount Hermon. The team set the goal of having a strong, consistent start and they delivered as the breakouts and forecheck were well-executed. Westminster earned a power play just five minutes in and Megan Rittenhouse '20 settled the puck below the goal line. Rittenhouse walked to the net and sent a perfect pass to Taylor Adams '20 who one-timed it to the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. NMH worked to respond to the goal and created some chaos in front of the Westminster net, but goalie Tatum Courtmanche '21 made three quick saves in a row to maintain the lead. The Martlets settled into some good offensive play in the final minutes as Jenny Guider '20 pressured the defense causing a turnover that she then sent to Adams who scored her second of the game to secure a 2-0 lead. The second period belonged to Westminster, but the NMH goalie was outstanding keeping the score locked at 2-0 after two periods. The third period started with even play, but then Westminster put on the pressure taking shot after shot on the NMH goal. Finally at the 11 minute mark, Cammi Ahern '22 buried a puck off a play from Guider. NMH came back at it and got on the board just 20 seconds later to make the score 3-1. Defenseman Caroline Pratt '22 looked to reclaim the momentum by taking the puck on the defensive blue line and rushing the NMH net, nearly scoring on the effort. After a series of penalties on both sides, Westminster secured a power play and with just one second remaining on the penalty, Adams struck again for the hat-trick off a play from Guider. It was a good team effort and a good milestone for the team to reach double-digit wins for the first time since 2015. The Martlets will look to continue to build and improve as they face-off against Loomis Monday afternoon.
