Poet and Artist Melissa Croghan Exhibits Artworks

Works of art by poet and artist Melissa Croghan will be on display in Baxter Gallery until Feb. 15.
Award-winning poet and artist Melissa Croghan is exhibiting some of her artworks in Baxter Gallery at Westminster School until Feb. 15. On display are landscapes, portraits, narrative art, refugee art and a group of oil paintings called the “Mother America Series.”

Croghan is a Connecticut writer and a multi-media artist of works on paper and canvases. As a writer, she is a poet, novelist and memoirist. Her novel “The Tracking Heart,” published in 2012, has received critical plaudits from Kirkus Reviews and has had popular readership. In 2014, she published “Cliff Walk: Poems and Paintings of Mackinac and Beyond.” With her “Mother America Series” and her most recent excavations in poetry and art, Croghan is a poet who breaks new ground in the interdisciplinary boundaries between art and literature. In 2015, she spent the month of May in Jordan, teaching poetry and art to Syrian refugee children. Her line drawings became popular “coloring book” art for the refugees.

A former editor at Boulevard, an English professor and a Poet-in-the-Schools in Connecticut, Croghan holds master’s and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Pennsylvania.

The exhibit opened Jan. 15, following a reading she gave as part of Westminster’s Friday Nights in Gund, a series of readings and concerts held at Westminster during the academic year.

Baxter Gallery is located in Armour Academic Center with ample parking available in the parking lot adjacent to the center.
