Spring Sports Highlights for 4.2.18

Lacrosse - First Girls'
March 31: Lacrosse - First Girls’ 9 vs Middlesex School 18
Westminster First Girls’ Lacrosse opened the 2018 season with a game against a talented Middlesex squad. Middlesex opened up the scoring early after a fast break thanks to winning the first draw of the game. But Westminster kept the goal deficit small and the Martlets got their footing on the draw circle and worked to slow the fast Middlesex transition. Westminster worked to keep the game close with goals from Georgia Nolan '20, captain Emma Lange '18 and captain Emma Alpaugh '18, but they could not catch up. Goalie Ellie Bailey '21 turned in a nice game, making great saves in the second half.

Hannah Stone '18 hit a three-run homer and had four RBIs to lead Westminster to an 11-3 victory in the opening game of the 2018 season. Playing in front of a fairly large and supportive home crowd, Ally Marenco '18 struck out 11 batters and allowed just seven hits for the Martlets. Taylor Adams '20, Gabby Nemarich '20, Emily Samar '18 and Ashlee White '18 had two hits apiece for the Black and Gold. Adams played well at second base, while infielders Stone, Nemarich and White each were strong defensively throughout the afternoon. Outfielders Kiki Magid '19, Abby Munger '20 and Lucy Noel '18 played well. Noel made a nice catch at the centerfield fence for the last out of the contest. Samar called a strong game behind the plate, and was a vocal leader on the field.
