Dedication of Transformational Facilities

About 400 members of the Westminster community — alumni, parents, grandparents, faculty, former faculty, staff and friends of the school — attended a dedication celebration Oct. 13 for Armstrong Dining Hall, Kelter House and Brockelman Student Center. It was held in the new dining hall and featured a cocktail reception with musical entertainment by students, and a dinner that was accompanied by a number of speakers.

The new dining hall and Kelter House — a student and faculty residence — opened in September at the start of school. Brockelman Student Center is under construction in Cushing Hall and is expected to open in January. The new facilities have had a transformational impact on the campus.

Chair of the Board of Trustees Brad Raymond ’85, P’19, ’20 welcomed everyone and said, “Tonight is a night to celebrate all the success that Westminster has had and thank all of you who have made this possible.”

Headmaster Bill Philip extended his appreciation to those who supported the projects, who designed and constructed them, and who planned the evening’s celebration.

Head Prefect Jessie Schuhlen ’18 spoke about her Westminster experience and how the new facilities create opportunities to bond with others on campus. Westminster master planner, and founder and president of GUND Partnership Graham Gund ’59 talked about the new dining hall and its major architectural features. “Aspirationally, the dining hall is a grand space that lends importance to the idea of building community at Westminster,” he said.

Trustee emerita Liz Armstrong P’04, ’06, ’07, Curtis Brockelman ’19 and Trustee Jeff Kelter P’12, ’14, ’19 then spoke about their involvement with Westminster and why their families supported the new facilities.

In his closing remarks, Headmaster Philip talked about Westminster’s future. “Looking forward, our most important priority must be direct support for our students, the faculty who teach them and the programs they learn from,” he emphasized. “So a huge thank you to all of you for being here, for your support and for your ambassadorship, and heartfelt thanks for being a part of this special evening.”
