Golf-First Girls’ vs Westover School
Although Elaina Comia '19 earned Westminster's only point on the afternoon (3/2) behind her consistent, accurate drives, the Martlets were unable to prevail over a tough Pelican squad from Loomis who eked out three of five matches on the ninth hole. Loomis' #1 player was the match medalist at 44, followed by Westminster's Susie Mahoney '20 at 46. Becca Gavel '18 and Abby Leblanc '17 fought hard at the #2 and #3 spots, falling to their respective opponents on the final hole. While Annie Hicks '17 struggled early to find consistency in her swing, ultimately losing 3/2, she finished well on the last couple of holes with some beautiful approach shots. In exhibition play Elisabeth Morin '18 had to withdraw midway through her round due to a dislocated shoulder. Even though the squad was disappointed to let this one slip away, the team is eager for a rematch in the next couple of weeks. Everyone agreed, once again, that the team's putting remains its greatest nemesis, so we will spend even more time on the practice green.

April 19: Golf-First Boys’ 192
vs Loomis Chaffee 184
vs Kingswood-Oxford School 196
vs Kent School 205
In spite of very difficult weather conditions at Wintonbury Hills (mid-40s with blustery winds and steady rain), First Boys' Golf played its best round of the year in a match against Loomis, Kingswood-Oxford and Kent. The final results were Loomis (184), Westminster (192), K-O (196) and Kent (205). Jason Liu (Loomis) and Bobby Scola (Loomis) shared medalist honors with scores of 35 (even par). Grant Noble '18 led the way for Westminster with a very solid round of 37 (+2), followed by Sam Knowlton '17, Ned Blanchard '20 and Justin Flaks '20 with rounds of 38 (+3). Logan Hinton '17 (41) and Jack Griffith '17 (45) rounded out the scoring for the Martlets.

April 22; Golf-First Boys’ 211
vs Salisbury School 202
vs Suffield Academy 195
vs Wilbraham & Monson Academy 196
In spite of very favorable course conditions, First Boys' Golf struggled to find its game as fell to Suffield, Wilbraham & Monson and Salisbury. The final match results were Suffield (195), Wilbraham & Monson (196), Salisbury (202) and Westminster (211). Justin Flaks '20 shot a very solid round of 38 (+2) to earn his first team medalist honors of the season. Other Westminster scores included Grant Noble '18 (41), Ned Blanchard '20 (42), Sam Knowlton '17 (44), Logan Hinton '17 (46) and Jack Griffith '17 (49).

April 19: Golf-Second Boys’ 225 vs Salisbury School 247
Golf-Second Boys’ 177 vs Wilbraham & Monson Academy 211
On a chilly and rainy afternoon, Second Boys’ Golf hosted Salisbury and Wilbraham and Monson at Hop Meadow Country Club and came away with two wins. Since Wilbraham only brought four players, both opponents allowed that match to be the best of four scores, whereas, the Westminster versus Salisbury match, was determined by the usual best of five out of six scores. The Martlets (177) total beat Wilbraham and Monson's (211) and Westminster's (225) bested Salisbury's (241). The host's Alex Biedron '18 was match medalist shooting a 41. Other Westminster scores included Ian Broadbent ’18 (43), Carson Roth ’19 (46), Brendan Jacobs ’17 (52), Darion Benchich ’20 (48) and Jagger LeClair ’18 (47).

April 22: Golf-Second Boys’ 212 vs Berkshire School 228
Boys' Second Golf was on the road to western Massachusetts to take on the Berkshire Bears at Egremont Country Club. Westminster shot its best total of the young season and defeated Berkshire by the score of 212 to the opponent's 228. Darion Benchich '20 took home the match medalist honors by shooting a (+6) 40. Other Westminster scores included Ian Broadbent '18 (43), Alex Biedron '18 (43), Carson Roth '19 (42), Brendan Jacobs '17 (44) and Jagger LeClair '18 (45). This was a pretty solid result, given that this course is a tough track to play for the very first time. It has tricky sight lines, it’s difficult to measure distances and the greens were significantly slower than the greens at Hop Meadow (the home course).

Lacrosse-First Girls'
April 19: Lacrosse-First Girls’ 4 vs Williston Northampton School 14
The Martlets found themselves on their heels early on a rainy afternoon on April 19, and despite playing hard all game, could not get any momentum against a strong and fast Williston Northampton team. The team went into halftime down 8-2 but played a much better second half to finish the game with a 14-4 loss. Maddy Paro '17, Kylie Murphy '17, Emma Lange '18 and Kendall Brown '17 scored Westminster's goals.

April 22: Lacrosse-First Girls’ 14 vs Kent School 1
April 22 was truly a great day for the Martlets, after a big win on the road against Kent. The entire game was a full team effort, with stellar performances on both the defensive and offensive side of the ball. The team came out strong off the first whistle, and pulled ahead for a sizable lead heading into the half with a score of 8-0. The Martlets maintained their efforts for a full 50 minutes, which resulted in a final score of 14-1. Many goals were scored off of great assists, and the defense was disciplined and unrelenting the entire game. There were many different goal scorers, including Maddy Paro '17 (1), Lily Farriss '19 (4), Kylie Murphy '17 (1), Jill Parsons '19 (2), Emma Lange '18 (3), Emma Alpaugh '18 (2) and Shannon Keefe '19 (1). And once again, goal tender Leah Klassen '17, had a great game with five saves.

Lacrosse-Second Girls'
April 19: Lacrosse-Second Girls' 3 vs Williston Northampton School 2
Westminster came out on a top of a tough defensive battle against Williston North Hampton on April 19. Despite the cold weather, Westminster kept its feet moving at both ends of the field to cause multiple turnovers. The Martlets worked together as a team and supported each other throughout the whole game, allowing them to hold on to their lead after Williston was able to bring the goal difference to within one. Brinley Cuddeback '17 accounted for all of Westminster's goals, tallying a hat trick on the night. McKenna Burelle '17 created great offensive opportunities and transitioned the ball extremely well throughout the midfield. Newcomer to lacrosse Bennie Lopez '17 also had great footwork on defense and helped force multiple turnovers to give Westminster possession late in the game. Overall, it was a great team effort and Westminster looks forward to continuing its success in its next contest.

April 22: Lacrosse-Second Girls’ 9 vs Kent School 0
Second Girls' Lacrosse travelled to Kent for a late afternoon game. The Martlets wasted no time shaking off "bus legs" as Maddie Dwyer '18 scooped up a loose ball in the offensive end and scored a minute into the game. The team continued to control play for a good portion of the game as the Martlet defense forced many turnovers in transition to keep the pressure on the Lions of Kent. Seven different Martlets scored April 22. Dwyer netted two with one assist, McKenna Burelle '17 grabbed two, Bennie Lopez '17 and Brinley Cuddeback '17 each scored one with one assist, and McKenzie Roller '20, Eliza Polukhin '19 and Rebecca Sargent '20 each tallied one as Martlet goalie Nadia Lee '18 earned her first shutout of the season. The team looks forward to building on its offensive success.

Lacrosse-Second Boys'
‪April 19: Lacrosse-Second Boys' 12 vs Salisbury School 2
This was a good win for Westminster, one they will hope to build on moving into a challenging stretch of games. The Martlets were able to mount some strong offense against a steady defense from Salisbury. Scoring came in waves, and many different players got on the scoresheet. Salisbury could not match the offensive power of Westminster on this day, and hopefully the momentum will stay.

April 22: Lacrosse-Second Boys’ 3 vs Trinity-Pawling School 5
In a low-scoring contest, Westminster’s offense was made stagnate by strong goal tending from TP. The Martlets out shot TP by a heavy margin, but it was TP that would maintain a lead throughout the game. Westminster played an even, balanced game, and maintained composure in the face of disappointment. Defense was gritty, and the ground ball game went to the Martlets. A few more well-placed shots and this game would have been very different.

Lacrosse-Third Boys'
‪April 19: Lacrosse-Third Boys’ 10 vs Taft School 4
The Martlets left sunny warm Simsbury for the hour drive to Watertown. Over the short drive, the weather turned to a cold blustery day. Westminster failed to find consistency in team play and relied on some individuals to carry the group. Frustrations did overcome the group and some poorly timed penalties would not help. The game ball went to Khalil Walker '19 who was outstanding on LSM, his speed and overall effort were inspiring.

April 22: Lacrosse-Third Boys’ 7 vs Kent School 1
Third Boys’ Lacrosse would hit the road for the long trip out to Kent School April 22. The first half was a bit slow as Westminster had good ball possession but hit many pipes. The 10-minute running time quarters made the game fly by. After the first quarter, the teams would be tied up at 1-1. In the second quarter, the visitors would find the back of the net three times, two on man-up possessions. With a 4-1 lead at half, Westminster would not look back and extended the final to 7-1. The game ball went to Ral Reyes ’20 as his goal in the second quarter on man up would get the Martlets going.

Softball-First Girls'
‪April 17: Softball-First Girls’ 19 vs Loomis Chaffee 3
Brenna Monroe '17 and Gabby Nemarich '20 each had three hits and Gabby Brown '17 homered as Westminster defeated Loomis. Nemarich had two doubles and five RBIs for the Martlets. The game began with Westminster jumping out to a 4-0 lead as Nemarich, Ashlee White '18 and Lucy Noel '18 had run scoring hits. Nemarich and Hannah Stone '18 each drove in a run during the second frame to extend the margin to 6-0. In the third inning, Mackenzie Griffith '17 singled and Brown launched a two-run homer to center field to spark a five-run outburst. White and Emily Samar '18 each had three runs batted in during the afternoon. Monroe and Ally Marenco '18 pitched well for Westminster, and Samar caught a strong game.

April 19: Softball-First Girls’ 10 vs Taft School 1
Brenna Monroe '17 allowed just three hits and pitched a gem to lead the Martlets over a strong Taft team. Monroe, Mackenzie Griffith '17, Gabby Brown '17 and Katie Neilsen '18 each had multiple hits for the Black and Gold. The game was a tight 2-1 contest until the fifth inning, when Westminster put together a series of quality at bats. Brown and Monroe singled to open the frame, and Emily Samar '18 walked. Ashlee White '18 and Hannah Stone '18 followed with doubles and the Martlets took a 6-1 lead. Monroe then pitched a 1-2-3 fifth inning, and Westminster batters drove in four more runs in the top of the sixth. Gabby Nemarich '20, Stone, White and Samar had two RBIs apiece during the win. Defensively, Samar called a very effective game behind the plate, while Brown and Neilsen made some fine plays in the field. Taft was led by Anna Rasmussen, who drove in a run with a double in the fourth inning.

April 22: Softball-First Girls’ 12 vs Canterbury School 2
Ally Marenco '18 pitched well and allowed only four Canterbury base hits as the Martlets defeated the Saints. Gabby Brown '17 and Brenna Monroe '17 had two hits and two RBIs apiece to lead Westminster. Mackenzie Griffith '17, Lucy Noel '18, Hannah Stone '18 and Ashlee White '18 also drove in runs for the Black and Gold. The game began with an outburst of scoring by the Martlets. Brown, Griffith, Monroe, Noel, Stone and White put together a string of hits resulting in a quick 8-0 Westminster advantage. The Canterbury pitcher held Westminster scoreless for the next two innings, but Brown doubled and scored a run in the fourth frame. Monroe followed by driving in two runs with a base hit in the fifth inning. Emily Samar '18 caught another strong game for the Martlets. Canterbury was led by the play of Stephanie Proteau, who singled and tripled.

Tennis-First Girls'
April 17: Tennis-First Girls’ 2 vs Deerfield Academy 7
Making up a match rained out last week against Deerfield, the Martlets found themselves in a battle that lasted until dusk. With a number of close contests, the end result could have favored either team. The Martlets started off slowly in the doubles, struggling at #1 and falling behind at #3 as well. Nat Wilson '18 and Clara Ekholm '20 showed the most life at #2 keeping their match close. They ultimately had a few match points ‪at 7-6 but were unable to put the match away and lost 7-9. At #3 Maggie Chaves '19 and Alex Wolf '19 battled back from a serious deficit but it was too little too late. Going into the singles down 0-3 didn't bode well for the Black and Gold. These girls did not quit, however. Lily von Stade '17 got out to a good start at #1 and played her opponent game for game until falling 10-6. The Martlets pulled out two big wins at #2 and #3. Olivia Zhang '20 fought back from 6-9 to not only tie the match but win 11-10 (7-2). She showed great mental strength as she put more good balls in play than her opponent. Mary Kille '18 had the match of the day, though, at #3. After finding herself down 7-1, she summoned the fire within her and stormed back to ultimately win the match 11-9. At #4, Wilson was in another nail-biter, trading points with her Deerfield foe. Wilson tracked down numerous balls and pushed her opponent to the limit but fell 11-9. Chaves also did not quit at #6, fighting off match points and running all over the court. Her final score 8-10 reflected great grit. Ellie Suit '20 also played well against a tough opponent, losing 10-4. The match was much closer than the 7-2 score indicates and the Martlets should be proud of their tremendous effort, determination and good sportsmanship.

April 19: Tennis-First Girls’ 5 vs Williston Northampton School 0
With rain looming and a limited number of courts available, the Martlets were able to squeeze in their match against Williston and get the win. The Black and Gold were strong in doubles, winning all three matches 8-1. In singles action, Mary Kille '18 was particularly dominant and was up 8-0 when the courts became too wet to play on. At #1 Lily von Stade '17 found herself down 2-3 but regrouped and didn't drop another game. She was winning 9-3 at the conclusion of play. At #2, Olivia Zhang '20 also was in control of her match, up 7-0. While they were not as far along in their matches, Nat Wilson '18, Ellie Suit '20 and Maggie Chaves '19 all got out to a good start in their contests. The Williston coach showed great sportsmanship in conceding the match.

April 22: Tennis-First Girls’ 6 vs Kent School 3
The Martlets took advantage of their depth to earn the 6-3 win against Kent. In doubles, the Martlets adjusted well to the fast indoor surface in order to win two of the three contests. Nat Wilson '18 and Clara Ekholm '20 started off down 2-3 but then pushed the ball deep and took the next six games to put the match away 8-3. Maggie Chaves '19 and Liz Casey '18 battled back and forth with their opponents, ultimately putting them away 8-5. In singles, Kent fielded a superb #1 player, and Lily von Stade '17 did all she could to hang in the match. Olivia Zhang '20 also found herself down at #2, 4-7. She fought back to within one point of tying the match at 7-7 but lost the momentum and fell 6-10. The Martlets swept the next four matches. Mary Kille '18 at #3, Ellie Suit '20 at #5 and Chaves at #6 all took care of business with efficient confidence. Wilson at #4 traded games with her opponent before winning a key deuce point at 6-6. She closed out the match 10-6. It was another solid win for the Black and Gold.

Tennis-First Boys'
‪April 19: Tennis-First Boys’ 1 vs Suffield Academy 6
First Boys’ Tennis fought valiantly against a talented Suffield Academy team and lost by a 1-6 margin, although the match was much closer than the score. Suffield won the doubles point to start the match when they won at #1 and #3. Azat Mukhametkulov '19 and Nikola Kostic '18 fell 5-8 at #1, Ethan Na '19 and Carl Ekholm '19 won 8-5 at #2, and Connor Seeley '18 and Chris Whipple '18 lost at #3 by a 1-8 score. Tennis-Second Boys'
‪April 19: Tennis-Second Boys’ 0 vs Hotchkiss School 1

Tennis-Third Coed
‪April 19: Tennis-Third Coed 2 vs Hotchkiss School 5
The Martlets traveled to Lakeville on April 19 to take on a young but skilled Hotchkiss thirds squad. The weather was chilly with a steady 15 mph breeze out of the southeast. The heavy cloud cover would eventually give way to rain and forced the team to finish the final two singles matches on the indoor courts. It was not a great day for tennis but the Martlets remained unfazed.
The doubles team started well with the pairing of Jack Flanagan ‘17 and Justin Liu ‘18 winning easily at number two, 6-1. Unfortunately, doubles specialist Cal LeClair ‘17 and John Hunt ‘17 fell behind 0-5 before taking the next two games and nearly taking a third before losing 2-6. Kai Edmonds ‘19 and Darian Purcell ‘19 competed well in dropping a 6-3 decision.
In singles, Flanagan mixed in slices, lobs and drop shots with steady topspin from the baseline to prevail 8-4 at one singles. Liu fought hard and played consistent tennis before coming up short 6-8. Scott Lee ‘20 also played well but had a difficult time handling a more experienced player and lost 2-8 at three singles.
The match of the day was played by Aidan Wood ‘20. He was on court for well over an hour defending the baseline against a powerful opponent. The lead changed hands several times. His opponent broke Wood's final service game with several winners off of good rallies. Despite the end result, Westminster managed to rally as a team.

April 22: Track-First Girls’ 81 vs Miss Porter's School 33

In the hurdle events, Prendergast won the 110m hurdles followed closely by Brandon Williams ‘18. Williams went on to win the 300m hurdles as Prendergast finished second and Brownback finished third.
