First Team Softball
Westminster’s First Team Softball moved its record to 7-0 with a 17-2 win over Marianapolis Prep on Wednesday and a 9-2 win over Northfield Mount Hermon on Friday.

Brenna Monroe '17 struck out twelve and allowed only three hits to lead the Martlets to a decisive win on a windy Wednesday at Marianapolis. Monroe and Emliy Samar '18 each had three hits and two RBI and Kaitlyn McCausland '16 drove in three runs to lead the scoring for the Black and Gold. Catherine Crawley '16 sparked the offense with two hits during an eight run first inning scoring outburst. Gabby Brown '17 got in on the action as well, delivering two key singles in the game, and Ashlee White '18 added two hits and two RBI. The Westminster defense was solid throughout the afternoon, with fielders making most plays and committing just one error. Samar had one of her best games behind the plate, and Monroe fielded her position well with three put outs.

Monroe continued her hot streak on Saturday, striking out eleven in the team’s seventh consecutive win, a 9-2 victory over a good NMH squad. White had another big day as well, recording a triple and driving in three runs. The game was a scoreless pitchers' duel until the third inning, when Brown drew a walk and Monroe drilled a triple to center field. Samar then followed with an RBI single, and Jade Marlowe '15 reached base and drove in a run to give the Martlets a 4-0 lead. Samar had three singles and two RBI on the day, and Mackenzie Griffith '17 added two hits to help spark big innings for the Black and Gold. Defensively, Kaitlyn McCausland '16 made a number of important plays in left field.

First Team Golf
The Martlets are now 9-0 on the season after winning over Choate on Wednesday and beating Avon Old Farms and Hopkins on Saturday. Addison Cilmi ‘16 continues to lead the way for Westminster, shooting the team’s low score on Wednesday (39) and picking up the match medal on Saturday (37). Under very challenging conditions at Wallingford Country Club on Wednesday, the team defeated Choate 201-214. Cilmi’s low score was followed closely by George Doolan '15 (40), Taggart Corriveau '16 (40), Philippe Morin '15 (41), Rylan Williams '16 (41), and Wonjune Kang '16 (41 in his First Golf debut).

The team had much better weather on Saturday, as the Martlets (192) edged out Avon Old Farms (193), and Hopkins (203). While Cilmi claimed the low score again, Morin (38), Doolan (38), Williams (38), Corriveau (41) and George Brown '15 (45) were right at his heels.

First Boys’ Track
The boys’ track team moved its record to an undefeated 7-0 after beating Canterbury, Trinity-Pawling and Berkshire on Saturday. David Carter ‘15 was named MVP on the day, taking first place in the Long Jump and Triple Jump. Other first place finishes included Derin Ozturk ’15 in the Discus Throw, Payton Prendergast ’16 in the 110m Hurdles, Ben Feola ‘15 in the Shot Put, Aaron Poston ‘15 in the 300m Hurdles and Ricardo Vazquez ’16 in the Javelin Throw. The Martlets look forward to keeping their momentum going when they take on Cheshire Academy and Suffield Academy at home on Wednesday afternoon.

First Girls’ Track
The girls split their meets on Saturday, defeating Canterbury and losing to Berkshire by only a few points. Katherine Eckerson ‘17 was named MVP on the day with first place finishes in the Long Jump and Triple Jump, while the relay team of Unique Shakoor ‘15, Eckerson, Grace Brentano ’16 and Alexa Green ‘17 took first in the Sprint Relay. Other first place finishes included Jewel Brown ‘15 in the Pole Vault, Sophie Tawney ‘17 in the Shot Put, and Green in the 100m Dash. The girls take on Cheshire Academy and Suffield Academy on Wednesday afternoon in a 3:00pm home meet.

First Boys’ Lacrosse
The Martlets made the trip to Millbrook worthwhile by shutting down their hosts' offense early, holding them scoreless until the 23rd minute and taking the 12-3 win. The boys jumped out to a 7-1 lead by halftime thanks to a balanced scoring attack that included defenseman Drew Simeon '15 (game ball) and four other scorers. Penalties plagued the game for both sides, so much of the game was played odd-man, which Westminster was able to capitalize on due to lots of special teams practice. The boys were able to hold Millbrook to 2 for 12 in their EMO, while Dylan Moser '15 had 7 saves in net to keep Millbrook off the board. In the end, Westminster’s eight goal scorers, led by a 1 and 4 effort from Ryan Seymour '15, pushed the team to a solid victory.

The boys look to carry their momentum into a very big week coming up, as they take on Loomis on Wednesday and then Brunswick at home on Alumni Weekend.

First Girls’ Lacrosse
First Girls’ Lacrosse had a terrific evening under the lights on Saturday night, putting in an awesome team effort to beat Deerfield 10-5 in a game that felt much closer than the final score would let on.

The girls were a little slow out of the gates and Deerfield took advantage, racking up a quick 3-goal lead. After a timeout gut-check, the Martlets dug in and got to work. Susanna Baker '15 was the first to score at 17:40, followed shortly after by Eliza Christman '15. Westminster was still down 3-2 until Baker scored a pair to take the Martlets into the half with a 4-3 lead and the momentum.

The girls kept at work to hold and extend the lead, and Christman’s tenacity to win the draw became a catalyst for the team. Emma Stevens '16 scored the next two goals to start the second half, giving the Martlets a 6-3 cushion. Christman had a beautiful goal called back (dangerous follow-through) with a perfect feed from Sarah Migliori '16, but that didn't deter the girls, who maintained their composure and focus. When Christman was back in she answered with a goal at 13:47. Stevens scored at at the ten-minute mark, and Migliori finished the scoring line with the last two goals to close the game.

The offense worked hard on and off-ball to create scoring opportunities. Kudos to Margot Frank '15, Maddy Paro '17, Micaela Quinn '16 and Stevens for their determination to get the ball back into the Martlets' possession all night long. In addition, the defense made some huge stops, anchored by Katie Savage '15 in the goal, who made 15 saves in the game. Olivia Bey '15, Isabel Tibbetts '15, Emma Alpaugh '18 and Meg Forelli '15 were ready for anything on defense and were able to shut down the speedy Deerfield team. The girls take on Suffield Academy on Wednesday looking to make it two-in-a-row.

First Girls’ Tennis
The girls split had a superb day on Saturday, defeating Suffield with a clean 7-0 sweep. Playing the old 4-3 format, Westminster was dominant in every contest. Winning in singles were Ginny Durfee '15, Katherine Ogden '16, Wells Poler '16 and Paige Brackett '16. The victorious doubles teams were Mary Kille '18 and Natalie Wilson '18, Annie Hicks '17 and Leta Giordano '17, and Emma Alfeld '16 and Sarah Poling '16. After a tough week with some challenging competition, it was great to get a solid win against the Tigers.

Second Boys’ Tennis
The boys’ first win of the season, a 5-2 victory over Canterbury, came on a cool but sunny Saturday afternoon. The Martlets swept the doubles matches, including two exhibition wins by Mike Ventricelli '16 and Jake Beizer '15 (8-5) and Jordan Clapprood '18 and Tiger Zhang '17 (8-2). In singles, everyone played pro-sets. Johnny McDermott '16 won 8-4 at # 1. Ryan Lee '18 and Cam Gould '17 won 8-1 and 8-2 in exhibition singles. At #2, Connor Seeley '18 played a very tough opponent who got nearly everything back and kept his shots deep. Connor used patience and placement to open the court and pull out a 9-7 victory. The final two wins were at #4 and #6 from Stephen Gasior '16 and Jayme Stepto '16, both 8-0.

Second Team Golf
Not to be outshined by the First team, Seconds Golf is also undefeated so far this season with a 5-0 record. The team won their match on Wednesday against Avon Old Farms and Loomis Chaffee, shooting an impressive team score of 207. Loomis shot a 226, and Avon 236. Given the extremely gusty conditions, this was a fine effort by all members of the team. A trio of Martlets earned match medalist honors: George Brown '15, George Crawford '15 and MacKenzie Hawkes '15 all posted a 41. Just one stroke behind shooting 42 were the other members of the squad, Bryson Tomcik '15, Brett Roenick '16 and Jack Griffith '17 42. All teams were fortunate to escape the predicted rain and finished dry and happy.

The Martlets played host to Kingswood Oxford at Hop Meadow Country Club on Saturday afternoon. With several regulars away from school, Westminster had an inexperienced line-up but still captured their fifth win of the season by a score of 229-247. Hawkes was match medalist shooting a 43. Other scores for Westminster included Wonjune Kang '17 (45), Roenick (46), Griffith (47), Chris Connal '17 (54) and Nick Sanford '15 (48). This was the team match debut for both Connal and Sanford who played well. Overall, the Martlets struggled on the inconsistent greens and produced the weakest team total of the season. Nevertheless, they played well enough to earn the win. The team faces Avon and Taft at Farmington Woods on Wednesday.
