First Girls’ Hockey
The First Girls' team came out strong on Wednesday afternoon in their road game against Deerfield and came away with a 4-1 victory - their third win in a row. Emma Lange '18 got the Martlets on the board midway through the first with a goal assisted by Eliza Mell '16. The team added to the lead with a pair of goals in the second period from Catherine Crawley '16, assisted by Lilly Holmes '18 and Erin Ozturk '15, to take a 3-0 lead into the final period. Deerfield was able to snag one back, but a goal from Hayley Martini '16, assisted by Holmes, put the game away for good.

First Boys’ Squash
First Boys’ Squash took both of their matches this week, winning 7-0 over Williston Northampton on Wednesday and 5-2 over Trinity Pawling on Saturday.
The boys rolled against WNS, but Saturday afternoon’s squash match was a much closer affair. TP took two of the first three games out of the chute. At #4, the TP player earned his team the first point of the day with a 3-0 win over Sam Worcester ‘16, although Worcester had a few game points in the third game before losing 12 - 14. At #6, Declan Horrigan ‘16 pulled the Martlets even with a 3-0 win. The swing match at #2 looked dire, as Cal Perkins ‘15 trailed 0-1 and 5-8, but Perkins dug deep and claimed the second game 11-9. His third game was close again, but he prevailed and then won his match 3-1. The 2-1 match lead turned into a 4-1 victory when Addison Cilmi ‘16 and Will Leathers ’17 won in three games at #7 and #5. The only question left was what the final score would be. Wonjune Kang ‘16 fought admirably at #1, making the third game particularly close, but he lost in three. Henry Amory ’18 won a very close four-game match after losing the second game 14-16. Amory employed quick hands to work his opponent repeatedly into the back corners. When he changed pace, he had great results. His win made the final result 5-2, a nice victory for the team to cap off a great week.

First Boys’ Basketball
On a snowy Saturday afternoon, Westminster's First Boys' Basketball team played strong at home to beat the Gunnery School by a wide 71-48 margin. The boys, coming off of a loss less than 24 hours prior, came out firing, playing energetic offense and aggressive defense. Colin Dougherty '15 scored a game high 33 points to propel the Martlets to a big lead, while Chris Jones '16 added 11 points and 5 steals. On the back end of the court, Jack Werner '16 played stellar defense for the entire game.

First Girls’ Swimming/Diving
First Girls’ Swimming/Diving had a great week, winning their meet on Wednesday over KO 98-75 and tying Northfield Mount Hermon on Saturday 85-85.

The Martlets were tired after a long weekend of double workouts in Florida, but they dug deep to overtake Kingswood Oxford on Wednesday afternoon. The girls won nine of the eleven swimming events and turned in some season best times in the process. Elizabeth Brewer '17, Alex Kavle '15, Nornia Xu '17 and co-captain Emily Kunsman '15 won the 200 Medley Relay, and Leta Giordano '17 won the 200 Free, with co-captain Phebe Huth '15 in third with a best time. Kunsman and Charlotte Lennox '16 went 2-3 in the 200 IM, and Xu and Erin Haydon '16 went 1-2 in the 50 Free, respectively. Giordano and Kavle placed first and second in the 100 Fly, and Kunsman won the 100 Free with Brecky Huth '16 taking third with a best time. Brewer and Phebe Huth both swam season best times in the 500 Free to place second and third, respectively, while Nathali Madrid '17 swam her best time ever, good for fifth place. Giordano, Brecky Huth, Lennox, and Xu followed up with a win in the 200 Free Relay, and Brewer and Haydon teamed up with a 1-3 finish in the 100 Backstroke, both season bests. Kavle, Lennox, and Claire Hotaling '16 finished 1-2-4 in the 100 Breaststroke, respectively, and the 400 Free Relay team of Giordano, Haydon, Kunsman, and Kavle won easily to seal the victory. It was an overall strong effort for the team, which has shown improvement and resilience over the course of the season.

First Boys’ Swimming/Diving
First Boys’ Swimming/Diving split their duel meet on Saturday with a 57-40 score over Northfield Mount Hermon. Co-captain Tom Dudzik '15 put on a show on senior day, swimming his fastest ever relay split in the 400 Free Relay and his season-best time in the 100 Free for the win. Philip Wu '16 added a pair of best times in the 50 Free and 100 Free, and Albert Gao '18 swam best times in the 500 Free and 100 Back. Co-captain Henry Chou '15 swam a season-best 200 IM and swam a swift anchor leg in the 400 Free Relay to secure the victory. The boys race Avon Old Farms and Hopkins next Saturday at Miss Porter's.

Second Boys’ Squash
The match on Wednesday afternoon against Williston Northampton played out exactly as Coach Cervas thought it could, as the Martlets are overall better squash players than the Wildcats and were able to sweep all seven games. WNH historically fields a scrappy, never-say-die team, and they showed it in the box, pushing Westminster's players hard up and down the ladder.

The Martlets were especially strong at the top and bottom of the ladder with Luke Tressy '17 winning 1, 5, and 3 at #1 and Connor Seeley '18 winning 3, 2, and 5 at #7. The most competitive matches happened at #2 where Chanler Miller '18 won the first two games (7 and 3), then lost the third game 12-14 before rallying to take the match at 11-5, and at #3 where George Knight '15 lost his first game 8-11 before regrouping to take the next three games, 9, 6, and 5. George Doolan '15, despite still battling a lingering illness, swept his match, 8, 0, and 6, at #4, and Chris Hark '17 controlled his match at #6, winning handily at 3, 3, and 2. Finally, Jack Sargent '17 had to work very hard to control his urge to hit mindless cross-court shots in the tightest of three-game matches, winning 9, 7, and 10. The Black and Gold will need to be even sharper on Wednesday when they face the Pelicans of Loomis Chaffee, a team they narrowly defeated 5-4 in December.

Second Girls’ Squash
The Second Girls' Squash team traveled to Suffield Academy and came away with a 7-0 victory on Friday afternoon. The even numbered players started the match, with Abby Newman '16, Katherine Ogden '16 and Rachel Halfon '16 all winning in three straight games. The second wave of girls also played well, as Sarah Poling '16, Dora Mitchel '17, Isabel Tibbetts '15 and Annie Hicks '17 all won in three straight games as well. The match concluded with Lucy Noel '18, Lexi Organ '16 and Ellie Klein '17 all winning in straight games in exhibition play. While the Tigers fought hard throughout the matches, the Martlets were on point, and would've been a tough matchup for any team. The girls next host Kent.

Second Girls’ Hockey
The Martlets braved the snow to face Canterbury in a freezing cold rink. Despite numb toes, the girls skated hard and took shot after shot on net, tallying seven goals to Canterbury's one. Karus Sabio '18 had another great game in net, playing confidently and making big saves all game. The one goal against Westminster was a rebound off a shot that Sabio scrambled to cover but didn't get to in time. Martlet goal scorers were Cynnie White, Susanna Baker '15, Anne Bitterli '16, Katie Simeon '16, Katie Neilson '18 and Eliza Christman '15.

Third Boys’ Hockey
Third Boys' Hockey came out firing against the Forman School, racking up four goals in the first period and seven overall to take the 7-3 win. Brendan Jacobs '17, Alex Biedron '18, SK Lee '18 and Ken Mazzaro '17 got things started, putting the Martlets up 4-0 at the end of the first. The Boys went into the second intermission with a 6-0 lead off of goals from Jacobs and Tim Harris '17, and despite letting in three in the final period, added another from Josh Cosentino '18 to clinch the big win.
