Softball Wins Founders League Title

First Softball defeated Miss Porter's school May 10, winning the Founders League for the sixth time in the past eight years. The victory came on Senior Day, as Westminster recognized the accomplishments of Jordan Gowdy ’14, Lizzie Hark ’14, Rachel Monroe ’14, Kat Pate’14, Amanda Savino’14 and Brooke Wolejko ’14. Over the past four years, these Sixth Formers have helped the team achieve an overall record of 60 wins and five losses, and two Class A Western New England Championships. The 2014 championship tournament will take place during the weekend of May 17-18.

In front of a large home crowd on Reunion Weekend, Amanda Savino pitched a brilliant game, striking out seven and allowing only three Miss Porter’s base hits in five innings. Rachel Monroe had a grand slam, a triple, and six runs batted in for the Martlets. Savino, Gowdy, Pate and Wolejko contributed two base hits apiece in the win, and Hark played well in right field. Catherine Crawley and Jade Marlowe each had run-scoring doubles to spark big innings. Defensively, Pate and Marlowe made some nice plays in the field. Westminster’s record is now 14-0 heading into the final week of the season.
