Guitarist James Kerr to Perform at Westminster

Guitarist James Kerr ’93 will give a performance at Westminster Feb. 7 as a part of the school’s “Friday Nights in Gund,” a series of readings, lectures and concerts held at Westminster during the academic year. He will be performing selections of classical guitar pieces along with original compositions.
 
James is equally at home in the worlds of classical guitar, bluegrass dobro and renaissance lute. He has performed at such New York-area venues as Irving Plaza, The Knitting Factory, Gracie Mansion, Trinity Church, The Wetlands, Toad’s Place, as well as the Juilliard School and Yale University. He also has performed with such diverse artists as Mike Gordon (Phish) and as a soloist with the Mobile Symphony Orchestra Pops. He has opened for Ricky Skaggs, Norah Jones, Tony Rice, Mark O’Connor, Junior Brown and Double Trouble.
 
James attended the University of Michigan and Columbia University, where he studied jazz and music education. He is currently teaching a course in undergraduate musicianship and working toward a doctorate in classical guitar performance at Stony Brook University.
 
James’ Westminster performance is free and open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. in the Gund Reading Room of Armour Academic Center. Refreshments will be served after the presentation and ample parking will be available in the parking lot adjacent to Armour Academic Center.
