First Field Hockey “Pink” Game a Success

Members of First Girls’ Field Hockey traded in their black and gold for pink at their game against Berkshire Nov. 2 to help raise breast cancer awareness among friends and family. Every member of the team was able to play as they hosted a fundraiser for Susan G. Komen Passionately Pink®, which is working to end breast cancer forever through groundbreaking research and community health outreach programs.

In addition to the team’s 5-2 win under the lights on Hovey Field, it raised more than $4,200 for the foundation, making it one of the top 25 fundraisers for the foundation across the nation. The site will be up until the end of the month for continued contributions.

The girls had the following quote from Vince Lombardi printed out and tucked into their shinguards: “After all the cheers have died down and the stadium is empty, after the headlines have been written, and after you are back in the quiet of your room … and after all the pomp and fanfare have faded, the enduring thing that is left is the dedication to doing with our lives the very best we can to make the world a better place in which to live.” The girls also each had the name of a different breast cancer survivor or victim in a shinguard as well.

“It was a true team effort and included a lot of hard work by the girls, the captains and their parents,” said coach Colleen Joncas.
