First Girls’ Soccer
It was a big week for the Martlets who played their best soccer of the season in wins against Porter’s and Loomis. In the 6-1 contest against MPS, the girls moved well and used the entire small field. Meg Richard '15 led the Black and Gold with two goals. Sally Sandoval '15 and Jacqui Richard '16 each had a goal and an assist. Brittany Swanson '14 and Lexie Miller '15 rounded out the scoring for the Martlets. In an even bigger win against the Pelicans, the Martlets fought from behind twice to win. Sandoval scored both of the tying goals. Late in the game, Westminster turned it up a notch and took the lead on a beautiful goal by Jenn Girard '14. Rachel Monroe '14 had some fantastic saves and helped thwart any LC attacks to preserve the win.

Second Girls’ Soccer
The Martlets earned two more wins this week against Porter’s and Loomis.
Against MPS, Claire Hotaling '16, Paige Brackett '16 and Kiley Loureiro '15 gave the Martlets a comfortable lead in the first half. Emma Merlin '16 had a great game, netting two goals, and Alyssa DiMaria '15 scored the sixth and final goal. In a closer than the score indicates game against Loomis, neither team could score in the first half until Brackett scored off of a feed from Loureiro to take the lead going into halftime. Strong defense by Annie Mayer '15, Hotaling and MaeveDeFronzo '16 was essential to maintaining the lead in the second half. A long clear by DeFronzo made it up to Katherine Eckerson '16 who sent a bullet past the goalie. DiMaria scored two more goals to extend the lead for the Black and Gold. This was not an easy victory for the Martlets, as Eugenia Naamon '14 made several exceptional saves in goal for the win.

Third Girls’ Soccer
The Martlets hosted the Big Green in what turned out to be a hotly contested soccer match. The two teams fought for control of the field and, ultimately, BrinleyCuddeback '17 was able to score the lone goal of the game in order to give the Martlets the 1-0 win. Nikki Armour '17 led the solid defensive effort and Cynnie White '17 was tremendous in goal to preserve the shutout. All in all, it was a great game by the Black and Gold.

First Field Hockey
The Martlets secured two more wins against Porter’s and Loomis. Shannon Cherpak ’14 started the scoring against MPS, and Kelcie Finn '14 scored two more to finish out the scoring for the first half. The second half featured a goal and assist from Brooke Wolejko '14 and Megan Walsh '14, while Emma Stevens '16 tallied two goals. Finn finished with two goals and two assists. After a slow start against Loomis, Westminster ultimately pulled away in dominant fashion. Finn and Cherpak were again forces on offense combining for all of the Martlet goals in the 5-1 win. In the waning minutes of the second half, Loomis put the pressure on the Westminster defense, but was turned away by strong play from Abby Reed '14 and some incredible saves by Kat Pate '14 in goal.

Second Field Hockey
The Martlets played two good games this week, coming away with victories over Porter’s and Loomis. Georgia Morley '15, Eliza Mell '16 (2), Sydney Autorino '17, Cali Stevens '17, and Lily Mahoney '17 combined in the first half against MPS to establish a commanding 6-0 lead. The Westminster defense led by Lizzie Hark '14 and Katie Hovey '14 shut down the Porter’s offense. Against Loomis, the Martlets were dominant in the opening minutes and Morley put the ball in the back of the cage for the first goal, but the Martlets were otherwise held scoreless in the first. Early in the second, however, Stevens scored off a corner, and Morley struck again to make the final 3-0.

Third Field Hockey
The Martlets earned two wins against Loomis and Taft. In the 8-1 win over the Pelicans, the Black and Gold were able to score four in the first half. Lily Mahoney '17, Nicole Fox '16 Dora Mitchel '17 and Rachel Halfon '16 all scored. In the second half, Cali Stevens ’17 Mahoney, Sydney Autorino '17 and Abby Newman ‘16 each added to the tally.

Second Boys’ Soccer
The Martlets bounced back from a weekend loss with solid wins against Williston and K-O. On the attack early against the Wildcats, Jack Werner '16 fed Jack Griffith for the first goal. Soon after, Sam Dardani '14 served the ball to Jack Fitzgerald '15 to make it 2-0. While Williston managed a second half goal, the Black and Gold hung on for the win. In the contest with K-O, Ryan Seymour '15 opened the scoring on a penalty shot. Fitzgerald was able to tip in a Griffith pass to close out the half. The second half provided four goals three of which were from Jayme Stepto '16, who scored from a shot, a header and also off his back for the hat trick. BrysonTomcik '15 netted his first goal of the year for the final score.

Third Boys’ Soccer
Third Boys' Soccer played host to Loomis and came away with a 3-1 victory. The Martlets started off slowly and were behind 1-0 when Jack Bitterli '16 made a nice cross to Jason Chung '17 who redirected the pass into an open net. The boys took the lead when WonJuneKang '16 made a stellar move to create an opening in the box and buried a curling shot into the upper corner. The boys finished the scoring when Aaron Poston '15 collected a pass in the midfield and broke free uncontested to the goal to score. The defense played extremely well, most notably Nick Sanford '16, Bryan Yekelchik '15 and Jack Horrigan '16.

First Boys’ Cross Country
In their first tri-meet of the season, the Martlets ran against the K-O and WNH harriers and were victorious against both squads. There was a battle up front in the early stages, and in the end, a Wyvern won the overall race, but three Martlets (co-captain Travis Percy '14, Thomas Cragg '14 and Aaron Rubin '15) were the next three finishers, sealing the meet against WNH. Co-captain Tommy Griffith '14 fell hard on the rocky terrain but finished 7th overall. George Knight '15 kept up his streak of consecutive lifetime bests this season, and one of the first-year stars, Andrew Lee '17, broke an important milestone by cruising under the 20-minute barrier for the first time. Kevin Choi '15 almost joined him there, running a lifetime best of 20:01 and rounding out the First team ladder.

Second Boys’ Cross Country
The Second Boys have seen steady improvement this season, and the top pack averaged well under 7 minutes per mile during their race against Williston and K-O. Tim Harris '16 dashed across the finish line first for Westminster in a lifetime best of 20:13. A great inter-team rivalry then played out between Ben Shaver '16, Jordan Gabbidon '17, Gustavs Gerkens '15 and Stephan Reyes '14, with the Martlets finishing in that order within a brief 5-second window. The displacers were Carlo Comia '14 and Philip Wu '16, with notable runs by Mike Gao '14 (lifetime best) and other veterans and novice members of the A team.
