Westminster Softball Wins Class A Western New England Championship

In an outstanding team effort, First Softball defeated Choate 11-1 on Sunday, May 19, to capture its fifth Western New England Championship in six years. Amanda Savino ’14 pitched a gem, allowing just three Choate base hits, and the team also played flawlessly in the field. The Westminster offense was paced by the strong hitting of Rachel Monroe ’14, Jordan Gowdy ’14, Brooke Wolejko ’14 and Kat Pate ’14.

The championship game took place in front of a large crowd at Westminster and capped an exciting 17-1 season for the Martlets. On Saturday, the Black and Gold defeated Suffield to advance to the title game.

Throughout the spring, the team benefitted from the strong play of Alli Devins ’13, Hayley Ahouse ’13, Michela Gozzi ’13, Jade Marlowe ’15 and Paige Capistran ’16. The program also looks forward to the contributions of promising new players Catherine Crawley ’16 and Kaitlyn McCausland ’16. Graduating Seniors Hayley Ahouse, Sydney Daniels, Alli Devins and Michela Gozzi have made a significant impact and will be greatly missed. During their time at the school, Westminster softball has achieved a record of 60 wins and five losses. However, a talented returning group should lead to an exciting year in 2014.
