Sports Highlights 04.29.2013

First Softball
It was a 3-0 week for the Martlets with wins over K-O, Gunnery and Millbrook. Against the Wyverns, highlights included a two-run homer by Brooke Wolejko ’14, and both Rachel Monroe ’14 and Amanda Savino ’14 had a strong day at the plate. Against the Gunnery, Paige Capistran ’16 blasted a two-run home run, and Wolejko had four RBIs to lead the Martlets. Alli Devins ’13, Jordan Gowdy ’14 and Monroe each had doubles in the win. The Martlets won their 10th consecutive game on Saturday, defeating a strong Milllbrook team. Wolejko, Kat Pate ’14, Monroe and Jade Marlowe ’15 had two hits apiece to pace the offense. Savino pitched well, allowing only three Millbrook base hits and striking out seven batters. Gowdy had a strong game defensively for Westminster.
 
First Golf
The Martlets continued to tally wins in matches with Choate (214-215), and Avon (202-212) and Hopkins (202-228). TaggartCorriveau ’16 led the way for Westminster, shooting a score of 40 against the Wild Boars. Other Westminster scores included David Hallisey ’13 (43), Philippe Morin ’15 (43), Derek Leydecker ’15 (43), Jack Rubino ’13 (45) and Addison Cilmi ’16 (46). In the second match, Rubino had the best round for Westminster with a score of 37 (+1) to earn tournament medalist honors. Other Westminster scores included Philippe Morin (39), Hallisey (40), George Doolan ’15 (43), Leydecker (43) and Xavier Morin ’13 (45).
 
Second Golf
A few more victories for the Martlets this week in matches against Avon, Loomis and K-O. Bryson Tomcik ’15 took medalist honors with a 40. Other scores included Will Swanson ’15 (41); MacKenzie Hawkes ’15 (42); Sebastian Aboitiz ’15 (42); Brett Roenick ’16; and Miguel Castello ’13 (45). Against the Wyverns, the match featured tri-medalists Addison Cilmi ’16, Teddy Sirbaugh ’16 and Tomcik, all shooting a solid 39. Other scores included Taggart Corriveau ’16 (43); Swanson (43); and Hawkes (46).
 
Second Girls’ Lacrosse
The Martlets won a competitive contest against Taft. Georgia Morley ’15 was the top scorer of the game with four goals, followed by Emily Mell ’14 with three goals and Sarah Melanson ’16 with two. Katie Hovey ’14, Cricket DiGaloma ’14, Katie Simeon ’16, Meggie Gresham ’14, Anne Bitterli ’16, Thiele Schroeder ’14 and Lexi Organ ’16 each added a goal to put the final score at 16-9.
 
Third Girls’ Lacrosse
Despite being undermanned, the Martlets defeated Loomis 11-2. Katie Deveaux ’16 was strong off the draw, and Alyssa DiMaria ’15 led offensively with seven goals. Michelle Sclafani ’16, Hallie Feibel ’16 and Abby Newman ’16 also scored. Julia Carter ’16, Claire Hotaling ’16 and Ashley Carbone ’16 were impressive on defense. CC Lynch ’15 did a great job in goal with four saves and strong leadership from the back.
 
First Boys’ Lacrosse
After an exciting 9-8 win over Avon earlier in the week, Danny O’Connell ’13 went 4 and 2, and Gardner Imhoff ’13 broke out with three goals as the Martlets had to come back against a stingy Millbrook defense. Vinny Gisonti ’13 had 11 groundballs for Westminster and secured some key possessions at the faceoff.
 
Third Boys’ Lacrosse
In an exciting back and forth game, the Martlets emerged victorious in overtime to beat K-O. Ashton Kille ’15 was essential down the stretch, scoring two consecutive goals to tie the game at 7 with just over a minute left. The Martlets started overtime two men down, and Ducan Kellogg ’15 finished the game with 13 saves but none bigger then the one in overtime which led to Westminster getting the ball back and killing the rest of the time in the penalties in the offensive zone. Miller Guth ’16 was able to get the game-winning goal. Leading the way in goals on the day were Hartwell Green ’15 with four, Kille with two and Chris Connal ’16 and Guth each added one.
 
First Baseball
On solid pitching by John Dowling ’14 with relief from Will Lammey ’13, Westminster First Baseball defeated Trinity-Pawling by a score of 15-14. Offense was provided by three hit performances from Tyler Buckley ’15 and Toby Casper ’14, along with additional hits by JP Schuhlen ’15, Mike McNally’ 14, Alex Tomashoff ’13, Luke Tressy ’16, Jack Werner’16 and Lammey.
