Singer and Songwriter Dar Williams to Give Westminster Performance

Acclaimed singer and songwriter Dar Williams will be the final guest artist of the 2012-2013 academic year in the Friday Night Readings in Gund Series. Williams will give a concert on April 29 at 7 p.m. in the Werner Centennial Center. The student performer for this special Monday Night Edition of Friday Night Readings will be Eliza Christman ’15. Faculty member Grant Gritzmacher will also perform a couple of original tunes. Williams will be meeting with students in their English classes the following day to talk about the art and craft of song writing.

Raised in Chappaqua, N.Y., and educated at Wesleyan University, Williams spent 10 years living in the thriving artistic community of Northampton, Mass., where she began to make the rounds on the coffeehouse circuit. Joan Baez, an early fan of her music, took Williams out on the road and recorded several of her songs.

In 1995, two years after self-releasing “The Honesty Room,” Williams signed with Razor & Tie Entertainment, beginning a relationship now in its 16th year. Along with her studio albums, she’s also released the onstage document “Out There Live” (2001) and the DVD “Live at Bearsville Theater” (2007). Additional information on Williams may be found on her Web site: http://www.darwilliams.com/.

Refreshments will be served after the concert in the lobby of the Werner Centennial Center.
