Boys’ Track and Field
Despite the cold and damp weather, the boys had a great meet against Choate and Trinity Pawling. While the Wild Boars were too much for the Martlets, the Black and Gold were able to defeat T-P. Most notable was Ryan Strange ’13 who ran his first 400 as part of the 4x400 meter relay, enabling the boys to come in first place. Travis Percy ’14 continued his dominance in the 800, and Jackson Price ’15 and David Carter ’15 took first and second place in the triple jump. In the throwing events, the boys saw significant improvement in the shot as both DerinOzfurk ’15 and Jae’Quan Barr ’15 improved by almost six feet.
 
First Girls’ Tennis
The Martlets earned a convincing win over Millbrook 8-1. All three doubles teams won, with Skyy McGeachy-Campbell ’13 and Ginny Durfee ’15 at the top spot winning 8-2. Katherine Kelter ’14 and Julia Cooper ’15, after a slow start where they were down 4-2, came back to win 9-7. Also paired together for the first time Brittany Swanson ’14 and Emily Sirbaugh ’13 won 8-2. In singles play, No. 1 McGeachy-Campbell mixed it up to win 6-1, 6-2. Swanson at No. 2 figured her opponent out midway through the first set and went on to win, 6-4, 6-2. Kelter was in control of her match at No. 3 and won 6-1, 6-1. At No. 4 Durfee used all the court and was victorious, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 5, Wells Poler ’16 fought back to win 7-5, 6-2.
 
Second Girls’ Tennis
The Martlets won their first match of the season 4-3 on the road against Hopkins. The match was very close with three singles matches going to a third-set tiebreaker to determine the outcome. Playing No. 2 singles, Annie Lacey ’14 exchanged long rallies with her opponent, ultimately winning 6-4, 8-6. Feisty and fearless, No. 4 Sarah Holmes ’13 overcame a first set loss (4-6) to win a second 7-5. She then took the tiebreaker 10-1 to win her match. In doubles, the No. 1 team of Claire Egan ’14 and co-captain Caty Pooley ’13 won their first match of the year 6-3, 6-4 by combining strong ground strokes with effective volleys. Playing together for the first time in the No. 3 slot, Susie Carter ’15 and Emma Alfeld ’16 clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
 
Second Boys’ Tennis
After defeating Kent 5-2 earlier in the week, the Martlets were impressive on Saturday against Pomfret to win 4-3, despite being a man down and having to forfeit two matches. To take the doubles point, Max Eklund ’16 and Will Schmidt ’13 won 8-5 at No. 1, and Mario Benicky ’14 and Erik Rost ’14 fought back to win 9-7 at No. 2. In singles, Eklund patiently dismantled a very steady retriever at No. 1, 6-2,6-1. At No. 2, Benicky won his match 6-3, 6-3 with great focus and determination. At No. 3 Clay Cadieux ’13 won the first set in a tiebreaker and then was able to take the second set 6-1, sealing the Martlet victory.
 
First Softball
Brooke Wolejko ’14 blasted a grand slam and Kat Pate ’14 had five hits to lead the Martlets to a 12-4 win over Suffield. Alli Devins ’13, Rachel Monroe ’14, Jordan Gowdy ’14, Michela Gozzi ’13 and Amanda Savino ’14 all had multiple hits to propel Westminster. Savino pitched a strong game, striking out nine Suffield batters. Hayley Ahouse ’13 played well defensively. Monroe homered and had three RBIs, and Pate had five base hits to lead the Martlets to a 19-4 win over Kent. Paige Capistran ’16, Wolejko and Gowdy each had strong games defensively for the Black and Gold.
 
First Girls’ Lacrosse
The Martlets played some of their best lacrosse this season in their 11-5 victory over Pomfret. Offensively, Tori DeAngelis ’14 was a force on draw controls, and Mary French ’15 scored three goals in a row in the second half. Susanna Baker ’15 and Annie French ’13 were impressive in the midfield as were low attackers Alex Regan ’13 and Lindsay Hanau ’13. On defense, Eleni Tebano ’13 covered a very talented and fast Pomfret midfielder and Meg Forelli ’15 and Olivia Bey ’15 directed their team with confidence and discipline. Goalie Katie Savage ’15 recorded 10 saves on the day.
 
Second Girls’ Lacrosse
The Martlets had a slow start to the game against Pomfret but came away with a 14-3 win. Annie Bitterl ’16, Emily Mell ’14 and Abby Newman ’16 each had two goals while Georgia Morley ’15, Katie Hovey ’14, Sarah Melanson ’16, Emma Merlin ’16, Katie Simeon ’16, Sarah Burstein ’15, Alyssa DiMaria ’15 and Olivia Durham ’15 each added another goal. Evie Pope ’16 had a great game in goal, with multiple saves.
 
Third Boys’ Lacrosse
Playing on the turf, the Martlets had a great day against Eaglebrook, winning 13-3. They were able to put eight goals on the board before Eaglebrook could answer with one late in the second. Hartwell Green ’15 led the offense with three goals and two assists. During the fourth quarter, the Martlet defense was able to get some nice takeaways, which transitioned to a few fast break goals. Ducan Kellogg ’15 had five saves in goal.
 
First Golf
The Martlets continue to play well and added four more wins this week. On Wednesday, the final scores were Westminster (205), Suffield (210) and W&M (237). Jack Rubino ’13 (40) and Philippe Morin ’15 (40) led Westminster. Other Westminster scores included George Doolan ’15 (41), MacKenzie Hawkes ’15 (42), David Hallisey ’13 (42) and Daniel Snyder ’13 (44). On Saturday, the First Golf Team shot 207 to defeat Berkshire (217) and Kent (228). Rubino was again the tournament medalist with a score of 38 (+2) to lead the Martlets. Other Westminster scores included Xavier Morin (41), Derek Leydecker ’15 (42), Doolan (43), Philippe Morin (43) and Hawkes (44).
 
Second Golf
Addison Cilmi ’16 shot a masterful 37 as medalist in the match to pace the home side to a decisive win over the visiting Pelicans, 211-249. Teddy Sirbaugh ’16 contributed a strong 41 to the effort, and Taggart Corriveau ’16 (44), Bryson Tomcik ’15 (44) and Brett Roenick ’16 (45) rounded out the scoring.
