Cleaning Up Local Trails

Westminster School volunteers gathered bags of trash as a part of the Farmington Valley Trails Council’s fourth annual trailwide Cleanup Day on Sunday, April 7. The goal of the day was to prepare the trails for use by bike riders, walkers, runners and the public at large.

The Cleanup Day drew community volunteers at four staging areas across the eight towns in the Farmington Valley that encompass the northern part of the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail. The trail has 22.4 continuously paved miles from Farmington, Conn., to Southwick, Mass. Volunteers also cleaned up the Farmington River Trail, which has almost 10.2 miles of paved trail.

The Westminster group concentrated on the trail right across the street from Westminster and collected four garbage bags full of trash.
