Connecticut Writer to Give Reading

Connecticut writer, educator and poet Lynn Hoffman will be the featured reader Feb. 22 for Westminster’s “Friday Nights in Gund,” a series of readings, lectures and concerts held at Westminster during the academic year. The student reader will be the winner of the school’s James Joyce Short Story Writing Contest, who is yet to be announced.
 

Hoffman’s collection of poetry, “Like Fire Catching Wind,” was published by Antrim House and nominated for a Connecticut Center of the Book Award. Her poems “Cannibal Sestina” aired on NPR and “Mother to Son in Iraq” won first prize in the Connecticut Writing Project/University of Connecticut 2010 Writing Competition. Her work has appeared in the “Connecticut Review,” “Off the Coast,” “Freshwater,” and “Lemon Grass: A Sicilian Anthology,” as well as small press and other literary magazines. Her screenplays, “A Matter of Faith” (full length) and “Tic & Tiny” (short) were selected for the Connecticut 2009 Film Festival. For the past 15 years, Hoffmann has been the academic advisor at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts.
 

The Westminster School reading is free and open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. in the Gund Reading Room of the Armour Academic Center. Refreshments will be served after the reading and ample parking will be available in the parking lot adjacent to the Armour Academic Center.
