Second Boys’ Squash
Despite losing their first match of the season earlier in the week, the Martlets rebounded to defeat Williams School 5-2. Dan Parsons ’13 No. 3 won in four games and the rest of the squad won in straight games against some young, but enthusiastic, opponents. Winners included Curtis Brackett ’13 No. 4, John Dowling ’14 at No. 5, Gavin Durham ’13 at No. 6 and Andrew Bell ’14 won at No. 7.
 
Third Boys’ Squash
For the second time this season, the Martlets defeated Avon 7-0. Westminster won seven matches in straight games, as Kevin Choi ’15, Luke Tressy ’16, Declan Horrigan ’16, Bryan Yekelchik ’16, Tim Chartier ’14, George Doolan ’15 and Jeremy Mason ’16 controlled their contests from start to finish. Meanwhile, Ben Shaver ’16 and Collin Lech ’16 needed an extra game to secure their respective victories. Addison Cilmi ’16 at No. 1 had the toughest match of the day and gutted out a five-game win.
 
First Girls’ Basketball
The Martlets notched two more wins last week over Ethel Walker and Kingswood Oxford. Against Walkers, Rachel Monroe ’14 led the offense to a 42-34 victory. Meg Richard ’15 played very effectively in the post, Jacqui Richard ’16 had her highest point total of 2013, Laura Tingley ’13 played tenacious post defense and Annie Lacey ’14 got several steals in the second half. Against KO, the Martlets squeaked out a 43-41 win. Jacqui Richard had her best all-around game of the year, running the offense with poise, scoring key baskets, playing solid defense and rebounding well. Meg Richard and Monroe also were a force on offense, and Lacey and Tingley had strong games off the glass.
 
Second Girls’ Basketball
The Black and Gold won two out of three games last week, topping both Ethel Walker and Kingswood Oxford. The Martlets held Walkers to only 19 points with tough defense. Yvonne Pruitt ’14 scored eight, and Unique Shakoor ’15 scored six points. In the game against Kingswood Oxford, Susie Carter ’15 and Unique Shakoor ’15 led the offense in the 40-22 victory.
 
First Girls’ Hockey
The Martlets hosted Gunnery in “Pink in the Rink,” which resulted in a good hockey game and supported a great cause: research to cure breast cancer. After scoreless first two periods, Ashley Carbone ’16 scored off of a rebound of a Kat Pate ’14 shot. This energized the team for a second goal by Catherine Crawley ’16 who beat three opponents to score a short-handed goal. Emily Crocker ’14 did an excellent job in goal to get the 2-0 shutout.
 
Second Girls’ Hockey
It was another week of big victories for the Martlets, who handily defeated Loomis, Canterbury and Berkshire. Against the Saints, leading the scoring was Susanna Baker ’15 with four goals and one assist. Eliza Christman ’15, Katie Simeon’16 and co-captain Ellie Deveaux ’14 each had two goals and several assists between them. In their game against the Bears, the Martlets did not play their best but still earned the win. Baker again led all scorers along with Annie Bitterli ’16. Marissa Eklund ’13, Ana Wigmore ’16 and Katie Hovey ’14 who also tallied goals.
 
First Girls’ Squash
Playing three matches last week, the Martlets came away with two wins. In the 4-3 victory over Choate, the Martlets swept the first four matches to be played, led by straight game wins at No. 4 by captain Alex Regan ’13 and at No. 6 by Katherine Kelter ’14. Ginny Durfee ’15 won in four at No. 2. Laila Samy ’14 was again dominant in the No. 1 slot. The Black and Gold also defeated Sacred Heart 5-2 with Samy, Regan, Kelter and Eliza Worcester ’13 winning in three games. Charlotte Poler ’14 earned the fifth point, prevailing twice in oversets to win in four at No. 7.
 
Second Girls’ Squash
The Second Girls' Squash team defeated a talented Choate squad by a 7-0 margin. The individual matches were much closer than the overall score. Margot Frank ’15 (No. 2), Lia Petersen ’14 (No. 3) and Madeline Purdy ’13 (No. 8) won in three straight games, while Sophie Skinner ’15 (No. 6), Wells Poler ’16 (No. 5) and Annie French ’13 (No. 4) won in four. Julia Cooper ’15 (No. 7) lost the first two in her match but came back to win in five. Karlie Werdmolder ’13 (No. 1) also needed five games to defeat her opponent.
 
Third Girls’ Squash
The Martlets played Ethel Walkers’ Varsity team and won 5-2. Jane Lee ’13, MacKenzie Hawkes ’15, Katie Deveaux ’16, Susie Black ’15 and Sarah Poling ’16 were all victorious to bring home the win.
 
Second Boys’ Hockey
Even though they faced their first loss of the season last week, the Martlets had good victories against Williston and Kent. After getting down against the Wildcats, the Black and Gold came back with three power play goals by Dan Roberts ’14, Zach Orzeck ’16 and Pierce Cote ’14. A final two goals came in the third period to secure the win. Miller Guth ’16 and Drew Simeon’15 scored, and Stephen McCormick ’14 collected three assists. The Martlets again had to rally against Kent and did not score until the third period. Roberts and Simeon scored to tie the game and send it to overtime. In the extra period, John Pappas ’14 scored to get the win.
 
Boys’ Swimming and Diving
The Martlets were triple winners in meets against Williston, Canterbury and Brunswick. In the dual meet against the Wildcats, Westminster won all the stroke events and the 50 Freestyle along with two of the three relays. Co-captain Henry Chou ’14 was a double event winner in the 200 IM and the 100 Fly. Co-captain Herbert Cheng ’13 won the 100 Backstroke. Jimmy Guiliano ’13 won the diving event, and Toby Casper ’14 added wins in the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Breaststroke. On Saturday, in a tri-meet, the Martlets again rose to the challenge leading all the way through the meet. The Martlet relay team of Cheng, Casper, Chou and Drew Poling ’13 won the 200 Medley Relay with their fastest time of the season. Travis Percy ‘14, John FitzPatrick ’13, Tom Dudzik ’15 and Poling won the 200 Free Relay, and the Martlets were dominant in individual events as well against both teams.
