Westminster School Headmaster Bill Philip recently announced three school appointments involving longtime Westminster faculty members. Greg Marco, Bill Sistare and Mary Pat Gritzmacher will assume new responsibilities at the end of the current academic year.
Following the retirement at the end of the academic year of Dick Adams, who serves as Dean of Faculty, Greg Marco will assume the Dean of Faculty position. A graduate of Colby College with a M.Ed. from the University of Maine, Greg was appointed to the Westminster faculty in 1989. Over the years, Greg has filled many roles, including teaching across the science curriculum, chairing the Science Department, coaching, supervising dormitory corridors and serving as Director of Studies. Next year, the Marcos will be moving back on corridor from their campus home on Winterset Lane.
In a related appointment, Bill Sistare has been named the Director of Studies to succeed Greg. Bill earned his B.A. at Pomona College and his M.S. at the University of New Hampshire. At Westminster, in addition to teaching science, coaching, advising and serving on numerous school committees, Bill has served as a Dean of Students since 2001. In recent years, he has also chaired the Academic Study Committee and, along with faculty member Mark de Kanter, served as Co-Director of the Westminster Teaching Initiative. “We are fortunate to have such a talented member of our community so well prepared to assume this important responsibility,” said Headmaster Philip
After 20 years at Westminster, Joyce Wilson will also be retiring at the end of the academic year after serving as Math Department Chair, Director of Studies, Associate College Counselor and a coach. Next fall, Mary Pat Gritzmacher will assume Joyce’s college counseling duties. A graduate of Yale University, Mary Pat is in her 12th year on the faculty at Westminster, where she has served as a history teacher and coach. While counseling students through the college admissions process, Mary Pat will continue to teach history.
This spring, Mary Pat will work with Joyce to launch counselees on the college application process. Mary Pat will then see the process through next year. “Having spent many years serving in our college office, I know that Mary Pat possesses the qualities which will earn her recognition as an outstanding college counselor,” said Headmaster Philip. “I encourage everyone to join me in congratulating Greg, Bill and Mary Pat on their new appointments.”
