The Martlets earned an exciting overtime win against Wilbraham and Monson.  It was a close game from start to finish. Westminster outscored the visitors 11-3 in overtime to win 56-48.

First Boys’ Squash
The Martlets continue to roll over their opponents and notched three more victories during the week.  In a 5-2 win over Avon, Will O'Donnell ’13 stood out as did Harry Ganek ’14 for their impressive play. Against Pomfret, Westminster earned the shutout with a number of 3-0 wins.  The best Westminster performance came from Alvin Heumann ’14 at No. 1, who won 11-0, 11-1, 11-1. Finally, Westminster beat Founders League rival T-P with a 7-0 clean sheet. None of the Martlets dropped games. Heumann again was impressive with mostly error free play at No.1.

Second Boys’ squash
The Black and Gold remain undefeated with decisive wins over Avon and Trinity-Pawling. Against the Winged Beavers, while the Martlets secured a 9-0 win, many of the matches were hotly contested. Wonjune Kang ’16 and Preston Miller ’13 were very impressive at the top of the ladder, never giving their opponents a chance to get into the matches, and Dan Parsons ’13, Will Swanson ’14, and Curtis Brackett ’13 all were focused and dominant in their straight-game victories. In the T-P match, the Martlets surrendered fewer than an average of 11 points in each match, as they swept all eight matches against Trinity Pawling for their fifth consecutive shutout victory of the season.

Third Boys’ Squash
Six Third Formers squared off against the Hawks from Renbrook and gave Westminster a gratifying 5-1 victory. Bryan Yekelchik ’16, Luke Tressy ’16 and Collin Lech ’16, playing at the No. 2, No. 4, and No. 6 slots respectively, won their matches in straight games. Jeremy Mason ’16, at No. 5, had a very close four-game match, splitting the first two games but then winning the next two. The match of the day belonged to Ben Shaver ’16 at No. 3, a five-game slugfest. In the fifth and decisive frame, Shaver took control, winning 11-3 to close out the match.

First Boys’ Hockey
The Martlets had a busy week and came away with two wins out of three contests.  In a 9-0 win over KO, eight different players scored.  Jack Fitzgerald ’15 led the way with two goals and Anthony DiPlacido ’15 had three assists, while Ryan Mowery ’13 and Frank Sullivan ’15 each had a pair of assists. The next day against Canterbury, Westminster earned an 8-5 win. David Hallisey ’13 and Sean Orlando ’13 each scored two goals each to lead the Black and Gold offensive effort.

First Girls’ Hockey
The Martlets had three wins this week over KO, Millbrook and Hotchkiss.  Erin Ozturk ’15 and Sarah Melanson ’16 scored in a 2-0 win against KO. Emily Crocker ’14 made a couple of very nice saves to preserve the shutout. After going down 0-1 against Millbrook, the Martlets regrouped between periods and came out strong. Ozturk earned a hat trick and Tori DeAngelis ’14 and Laura Moore ’14 added tallies as well for the 5-1 win.  Finally in a great battle against Hotchkiss, the teams remained knotted at 0-0 going into the third period, when finally the Martlets’ Catherine Crawley ’16 scored, and DeAngelis followed with another for a 2-0 win.

Second Girls’ Hockey
The experience of the Martlets was too much for the Hotchkiss Bearcats with the Black and Gold coming away with an 11-0 win. Many different players scored, but Ana Wigmore ’16 and Emma Filler ’15 both earned their first goals as Westminster players.  Evie Pope ’16 stood out as well, demonstrating outstanding effort and hustle.

First Girls’ Squash
The Martlets picked up another win against visiting Berkshire.  In most of the matches, the Martlets rolled, with particularly decisive victories going to Laila Samy ’14 at No. 1, Ginny Durfee ’15 at No. 2, and Alex Regan ’13 at No. 4.  Cricket di Galoma ’14, Katherine Kelter ’14 and Lindsay Hanau ’13 also won in three at Nos. 3, 5 and 6 respectively, although each had to pull out one close game. At No. 7, Charlotte Poler ’14 came back from an 0-2 deficit to win in five.

First Boys’ Basketball
Down 60-59 with 1.9 seconds left, Westminster’s Yianni Gavalas ’13 grabbed an offensive rebound and fed Kris Hargraves ’13 for the winning basket as the Martlets avenged an earlier, at-the-buzzer loss to Loomis in an exciting Founders League game.  Hargraves led all scorers with 31 points (eight assists and four steals), while Mike McNally ’14 added 12, including a big hoop in the last minute.  Alex Tomashoff ’13 grabbed 14 rebounds and Chris Jones ’16 had four steals to round out a nice win for the 5-6 Martlets.

Second Boys’ Basketball
Behind a strong defensive effort, the Martlets were victorious over Hotchkiss.  By changing defenses and pressing, the Martlets held the Bearcats to 14 first half points.  Both teams warmed up in the second half, but the Martlets prevailed 39-31.  Balanced scoring and few turnovers helped Westminster. Noah Fosse-Greiner ’16 and Jack Werner ’16 led the scoring effort.  Christian Barral-Arteta ’13 had five rebounds and four steals, Carl Doucette ’16 had five rebounds, and Scott Williams ’16 led the way with 10 rebounds.
