Dramat Production Brings Mirth to Audiences

Those attending Westminster Dramat’s performances of Molière’s farce “The Imaginary Cuckold or Sganarelle” Nov. 8-10 were treated to an evening of laughter during the commedia dell’arte style play.

“The Imaginary Cuckold” was so popular in its day that Cardinal Mazarin and Louis XIV committed Molière and his troupe to perform the play privately for them on multiple occasions,” wrote Westminster’s Director of Theater A-men Rasheed in his director’s notes for the program.  “I am so proud of how all of my student performers and technicians worked in achieving this play.”  In describing commedia dell’arte, he added, “Think of Laurel and Hardy, the Marx Brothers, Charlie Chaplin and Carol Burnett, all masters of the genre.”
