Second Field Hockey
The Martlets battled the cold and a strong Berkshire side to come up with a 2-0 win. Despite numerous opportunities, Westminster didn’t scored until late into the first half when Katie O’Connor ’15 received a ball off of the left post and put it in the net to give her team its first goal. O’Connor quickly scored again on almost the same play and that would end the scoring for the day. The Bears increased the pressure in the second half, but the Westminster defense of co-captain Caitlin Pittorie ’13, Lizzie Hark ’14, Katie Hovey ’14, Laura Tingley ’13 and Julie LeBlanc ’13 held strong. Goalie Susie Black ’15 also made some amazing saves to preserve the shutout.

Despite going down in the first half, the Black and Gold fought back. The Martlets evened the score at the end of the first half when Matt Plager ’16 took a perfect through ball, beat the defender with his speed and tucked home the equalizer with a perfect shot to the lower left corner of the goal. Westminster took the lead in the second half when BrysonTomcik ’15 scored. The defense, which was led by captains Ryan Seymour ’15 and Austin Pope ’15, did a nice job of holding off the Wilbraham-Monson attack.
