First Field Hockey
The Black and Gold added two more wins to their record with a dominant victory over Suffield and an overtime game with Canterbury. Brooke Wolejko ’14 and Catherine Crawley ’16 each had two goals in the 7-0 win over the Tigers. Eleni Tebano ’13, Lindsay Hanau ’13 and Megan Walsh ’14 also scored. In goal in the second half, Emily Crocker ’14 earned the shutout, kicking out six shots. Against the Saints, the Martlets had to adjust to a small, grass field and mustered few chances in the first half. The Black and Gold created great pressure in the second, earning 13 corners but were unable to score. The game went into overtime when finally Stina Ladd ’15, determined to score, took the ball down the field and sent a ball in to Wolejko on the far post, who forced the ball past Canterbury GK for the win. The defense played well on a tricky surface. Right back, Sarah Holmes ’13, was particularly impressive. She contained her opponent, had her stick low, and when she came up with the ball, had the composure to build the play with Susanna Baker ’15. The Martlets played well under adversity.

Second Field Hockey
The Martlets added two more marks in the win column, squeaking by Suffield 1-0 and dominating the Saints of Canterbury. Against the Tigers, an uninspired start led to some chances for Suffield. After a scoreless first, the Martlets began to create more opportunities, which finally resulted in a goal by Jade Marlowe ’15. The defense was able to contain the Tigers to preserve the win. In a much better game against the Saints, the Black and Gold were again slow to start but picked things up quickly. Georgia Morley ’15 scored 10 minutes in and Katie O’Connor ’15 soon followed with another on her way to a hat trick for the day. Maggie Garrison ’13 scored off of a deflection, and Sarah Melanson ’15 gave the team their last goal of the game in the second half.

Third Field Hockey
In a rematch with Loomis, the Martlets came away with a 3-0 victory. Faced with outstanding goalkeeping by the Pelican keeper, the Martlets were held scoreless until the last minute of the first half. Erin Ozturk ’16 scored all three goals for the Martlets, and Alexa Armour ’14 had an assist. Captain Hadley Smith’15 had some timely saves in the goal to earn the shutout.

First Boys’ Soccer
After tying Loomis earlier in the week, the Martlets were fired up to play the Saints of Canterbury. From the first whistle, the Black and Gold dominated the pitch, creating many dangerous forays into the Saints’ end. Lorin Tobey ’15 earned the first goal and assisted on the second to Anthony Di Placido ’15, who would finish the day with a hat trick. Drew Leach ’13 also scored in the waning minutes of the game. With 21 shots on goal, the team proved its offensive strength.

First Girls’ Cross Country
The Martlets had to take a close race against Canterbury to earn an undefeated dual meet season and that they did. Paige Capistran ’16 ran a strong race to come in second with Sydney Rivers ’13 in pursuit. Klara Lindstrom ’14 and Mary Anderson ’14 dug deep to work past three of the four Saints in front of them, and Molly Mullen ’13 came from behind to put the critical competitors behind her and win the meet for the Black and Gold.

First Boys’ Cross Country
The Martlets faced a strong Canterbury squad along with a team from Millbrook in their final dual meet of the season and came away victorious against both teams. Aaron Rubin ’15 had to settle for second place, but co-captain Travis Percy ’14 ran a masterful race, pushing back challenges from the Canterbury No. 2 to take third. Tommy Griffith ’14 then stepped up to take fifth and, co-captain Will Sprenker ’13 stayed in front of a charging Saint to earn a crucial point. Toby Casper ’14 did his part as well, and the Martlets squeaked out a win over Canterbury.
