Students to Visit China

Six Westminster students will depart for an 11-day trip to China with Westminster School Chinese teacher Cara Hugabonne on June 4. They will be visiting Shanghai, Xi’an and Beijing.

The students include Alex Tomashoff ’13, Ronald Yeung ’13, Alastair Smith ’13, Ryan Fox ’14, Kelsey Mackenzie ’14 and Rosie Wetzel ’14. Kelsey’s father, Andrew, will also be along to take photos and help the students develop video diaries. Alex, Rosie and Kelsey are currently studying Chinese, and Ronald studied it during his Third-Form year. This is the first visit to China for all of the students except for Ronald.

Among the sites on the itinerary for the first half of their trip are the Bund, Yu Garden, Shanghai Museum, Nanjing Road, Suzhou, the Terracotta Warriors, the Xi’an Provincial Museum and the City Wall.

While in Beijing, some of the students will be staying with host families, and Alex and Alastair will be staying with Roman Liu ’14 and his family. There are plans to visit the Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Great Wall and the Ming Tombs. Kelsey and George Knight ’14 will be in Beijing next year for School Year Abroad 2012-13.
