It was an exciting overtime win for the Martlets over a strong side from Kent. Westminster held the Lions to just 14 points in the first half, as the Martlets went into the break-up by seven. In the second half, Kent took the lead but the Martlets fought back and regained the lead with three minutes remaining. Tim Lyons ’12 added a number of key rebounds, 14 for the game. Kris Hargraves ’13 hit some important free throws on his way to 11 total points, and Jordan Smart ’14 added nine points for Westminster.

Boys’ Swimming
The Westminster Boys’ team powered their way to victory over Avon Old Farms and won an upset victory over Hopkins in their final dual meet of the season. The Martlets finished the dual meet season with their best regular season record since 2007 (8-3). A true team effort, Westminster put its depth on display by placing two swimmers (or relay teams) in the top three spots in every race. Highlights included Emil Henry ’12 going below the :50-mark in his 100 Free for the first time this season to win, with Conor Mullen ’12 placing third. Josh Kokulis ’12 and Jake Cahill ’12 finished first and second in the 500 Freestyle, and the team of Mullen, Kokulis, Patrick Holowesko ’12, and Henry raced to first place in the 200 Free Relay, with the team of Cahill, Dan Parsons ’13, Charlie Januszewski ’13 and Travis Percy ’14 placing third. Henry Chou ’14, Percy, Kokulis and Mullen raced to the win in the 400 Free Relay, with Mullen providing a late surge to hold off a charge from Hopkins’ speedy anchorman to win the race for the Martlets by just .18 seconds. Now the team prepares for the Founders League meet next weekend.

First Girls’ Hockey
Westminster earned two important victories this week with a 3-0 win over Taft and a big 4-3 overtime win against Berkshire. In the first game, the Martlets controlled the play against the Rhinos for most of the game. Sydney Daniels ’13 scored two goals and Rachel Kennedy ’12 added another. Emily Wigdale ’13 was solid in goal. The game against the Bears was different from start to finish. After a scoreless first, Berkshire scored first and then Tori DeAngelis ’14 responded off the rebound of a Brooke Heron ’12. The Bears went up again, and again, the Martlets responded as Kat Pate ’14 fired a wrist shot off the post and in. The third continued the pattern as the Bears went up 3-2, but with 15 seconds to play, Eleni Tebano ’13 found the back of the net. In overtime, both teams took penalties and, in a 4v4 situation, Tebano found Daniels for the game winner.

Third Boys’ Hockey
Westminster traveled to Berkshire and earned a 4-2 win. With a short bench due to injury, the Martlet squad took the ice with 12 skaters, but this did not intimidate the Black and Gold, who got out to an early two-goal lead. Kyle Keir ’15 and Scott Shay ’12 found the back of the net for the Martlets to go up 2-0. Teddy Swenson ’14 then took the puck end to end for the eventual game winner. The Bears did not quit, however, and scored two goals in response, but Riley Bitterli ’14 shut the door with an empty net goal. Mark Pfister ’14 played well in the net and Brian Kelleher ’15 and Eric Glover ’15 also stood out for the Martlets.
