Davis Scholar Wins Squash Championship

Ahmed Abdel Khalek ’12, a Davis Scholar from Egypt, made Westminster proud, as he emerged victorious from the U.S. Junior Open Squash Championships this past weekend. The tournament, which was held at Harvard, represented some of the very best junior players in the world.

Ahmed was joined by his Westminster teammates Alvin Huemann ’14 and Michael LeBlanc ’12. Alvin played in the U17 division and Michael was in the U19 bracket with Ahmed. Alvin was knocked out in the first round, while Michael advanced to the second before defeat.

It was Ahmed who refused to lose. In fact he did not drop a game until the championship match where he ultimately was victorious in four games, 11, (7), 5, 5. While everyone on the Hill already knew there was a special player in their midst, this just further proves the unique opportunity the Westminster community has to watch one of the very best play the sport on a regular basis. And of course, the school is quite proud and congratulates Ahmed, who will be attending Bates College next year, where he will continue to compete against the very best collegiate players in the country.
