An Evening of Culture in Hartford

The lucky winners of the December Culture Draw at Westminster had the opportunity to experience an extraordinary evening in Hartford Dec. 2. Faculty members Scott Reeves and Darlene Skeels, and students Nadrina Ebrahimi ’15, Travis Percy ’14, Jae’Quan Barr’15 and Danielle Amiot ’13 dined at the Firebox restaurant then attended the Holiday Masterworks program of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra at the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts. The program featured guest conductor Richard Coffey, a large orchestra, three soloists, the Hartford Chorale and the Connecticut Children’s Chorus.
 
Four Culture Draws are taking place during the 2011-12 academic year at Westminster. Students and faculty members enter their names for a drawing of two faculty members and four students to spend an evening dining and attending a major performing arts program in Hartford. The students are excused from homework for the evening. Culture Draws for the year include:
 
Culture Draw No. 1, Oct. 7
“Traces,” The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts
“Traces” combines awe-inspiring acrobatics with infectious urban energy. Versatile artists deliver dazzling, gravity-defying displays of skill, dance and acrobatic brilliance through music, dance, drawing and spoken word.

Culture Draw No. 2, Dec. 2
The Hartford Symphony, The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts
The Holiday Masterworks program including Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Hodie,” a Christmas cantata for soprano, tenor and baritone.
Dinner at Firebox.
 
Culture Draw No. 3, Feb. 24
“The Addams Family,” The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts
“The Addams Family” is a smash-hit musical comedy that brings the darkly delirious world of Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Grandma, Wednesday and Lurch to spooky and spectacular life.
Dinner at Salute.
 
Culture Draw No. 4, April 13
“Fiddler on the Roof,” The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts
“Fiddler on the Roof” is a timeless classic musical that magically weaves music, dance, poignancy and laughter into an electrifying and unforgettable experience.
Dinner at Trumbull Kitchen.
