Students Qualify for Northern Region Music Festival

On Nov. 12, 11 Westminster students auditioned for the Northern Region Music Festival, which will take place in January. The audition had three components: a performance of simple scales in rhythm and proper intonation, sight-singing a piece of music in which they had only one minute to practice and the performance of a solo piece that they had prepared ahead of time.

Nine students from Westminster reached scores high enough to allow them to attend the festival: Jay Attys ’12, Sam Boures ’12, Madison Caan ’13, Lauren Darnis ’12, Randy Doyle ’12, Heather Frew ’13, Shelby Gamble ’14, Travis Percy ’14, and Morgan Rubin ’13. This is notable for Westminster, since the greatest number of students who were able to attend the festival in the past 11 years was only four.

Soprano Joanne Scattergood and Director of Music David Chrzanowski helped to prepare the students for their auditions in the weeks leading up to the November auditions at Avon High School.
