Westminster Field Hockey Wins 2-1

Westminster found themselves on their heels in the opening minute of the game after a Deerfield forward put them on the board 30 seconds after the start of the game. This early goal gave Deerfield a surge that lasted for the entire first half. At the start of the second half, the Martlets came out with a sense of purpose and a relentless attitude. Brooke Heron '12 put the Martlets on the board after a feed into the circle from Rachel Kennedy '12. Once Westminster put in the equalizer, they sank into a better rhythm for the remainder of the game. Kennedy put away the game winner with 13 minutes remaining in regulation off of a feed into the circle from Eleni Tebano '13.

The Martlet defense was challenged continuously by pressure from Deerfield's speedy forwards.; however, goalie Kat Pate '14 managed to make several key saves in the final minutes to hold off Deerfield's offense. Pate finished with 12 saves for the Martlets. Heron, Alli Devins '13 and Kennedy played well in the midfield, while Megan Walsh '14 and Brooke Wolejko '14 were solid on the forward line. Up next, the Martlets face the winner of the GA/ Andover game in the semi-finals of the Class A New England Tournament.
