Award-Winning Author to Read from Acclaimed Memoir

Update:This event has been postponed to the Spring 2012. Award-winning author Susan Conley will read from her acclaimed memoir, “The Foremost Good Fortune,” at Westminster’s Friday Night Readings Series. The series features readings given by guest writers and Westminster students on selected Fridays during the academic year.

“The Foremost Good Fortune” has emerged as one of the most talked about cancer stories of the year. It chronicles Conley’s move to Beijing in 2007 with her family, a cross-cultural odyssey through modern China and her experience of breast cancer there. O, The Oprah Magazine, listed it as a Top Ten Pick for February, Slate Magazine chose it as "Book of the Week" in early March, and the Washington Post called it “a beautiful book about China and cancer and how to be an authentic, courageous human being.”

Conley is an accomplished speaker, who has been invited to more than 40 national and international cancer centers, colleges and bookstores since “The Foremost Good Fortune” was released this year.

The Westminster reading is free and open to the public and will take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Gund Reading Room of the Armour Academic Center. Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the reading and ample parking will be available in the parking lot adjacent to the Armour Academic Center.
