First Girls’ Hockey and First Boys’ Hockey took to the ice to play Choate on the third day of the 10-day outdoor Whalers Hockey Fest 2011 taking place at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. On Feb. 12, before a crowd of some 100 students and 300 parents as well as alumni, faculty and staff, both teams had exciting wins that made the event even more memorable. The girls’ team maintained control throughout and dominated the Wild Boars, winning 3-0, and the boys’ team overcame a one-goal deficit in the third period to earn a 3-2 victory.
In addition to 15 elite high school, junior and prep school games, the Whalers Fest will feature an AHL game between the Connecticut Whale and the Providence Bruins, five premier college games, and a "Whale Town," featuring exhibitors, games, the Whalers Mobile Hall of Fame and a Hartford Whalers alumni vs. Boston Bruins alumni classic. The temporary rink was constructed on the field where UConn football holds its home games.
Thanks to the generosity of seven anonymous donors, Westminster spectators and the girls’ and boys’ varsity teams had the unique opportunity to be a part of this event.
