Fall Term Awards Announced

Headmaster Bill Philip opened the fall term awards ceremony Dec. 2 by talking about the large turnout at the New York City holiday reception the evening before and how the school community reaches beyond the Hill. He then spoke about the “many inspiring moments in the fall,” praising the recent Dramat performance of “Picasso at the Lapin Agile,” the parents’ weekend amazing dance, band and vocal presentations, the new visual arts displays in the Armour Academic Center and the school community’s participation in Community Service Day. He also shared information about the renewal committees he has established that are composed of faculty and trustees.

Director of Athletics Dennis Daly presented the fall athletic awards beginning with the Berry Awards, named in honor of faculty member Richard P. Scott Berry. These awards recognize the player from each lower team who gave the best effort and demonstrated the best attitude throughout the season.

The Frederick D. Houghton Award, which is given to the Westminster team with the best season, was presented to:

Performing Arts

In the performing arts, Theater Director A-men Rasheed presented the Frances Laurel Hopkins Award, which is given to a student(s) for outstanding contributions to the Westminster Dramat Association, to Greg Lafaire and Andrew Marco.

 

He then introduced the newest member of Dramat, the student dramatic organization requiring 120 hours of service on at least two different Westminster productions, as Tyler Mink.

 

He also announced the newest member of the Williams Hill Players, requiring a total of 500 hours of work on Westminster Dramatic Association productions, as Brooke Brazer and Hannah Ford.

 

The ceremony ended with Headmaster Philip asking Music Director David Chrzanowski to draw the winning names for a Culture Draw for four students and two faculty members to visit Hartford Dec. 10 to have dinner at Trumbull Kitchen and see a performance of “A Christmas Carol” at the Hartford Stage.
