For the first time since 2007, Girls’ Soccer has advanced to the New England Class A Tournament semi-finals, following their victory over Andover on Nov. 17.
The Martlets will now host Milton Academy, the #8 seed who defeated #1 BB&N 2-1 in overtime. The game will take place on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Westminster.
The Quarter-final Game
On Nov. 17, the team traveled east for the matchup where #5 Westminster was up against #4 Andover. The game turned out to be everything that a four versus five seed game should be. The Martlets showed no signs of bus weariness as they got on the scoreboard in the first 15 seconds of the game when Steph Piperno ’11 found Olivia Frank ’11 who sent the ball into the goal.
The remainder of the first half was a back and forth affair that ended with Westminster up 1-0. Andover evened the score in the second half and forced the game into overtime. In the first extra period, Amanda Boulier ’11 fed the ball to Piperno for the eventual game winner. While Andover counterattacked with ferocity, the Black and Gold defense held to secure the victory.
