Rachel Monroe ’14, Rosie Williams ’12 and Lindsay Hanau ’13 also added to the offensive effort. And in their final Westminster game, Sixth Formers Eliza Breed and Emma Pinney were able to get in one more goal for the Black and Gold. Goalie Gwen Pastor ’12 made several amazing saves to keep the ball out of the goal despite a barrage of shots. Overall, the game was a strong finish to a fantastic season.

Throughout the matchup, the team benefited from great leadership from captains Atesha Gifford ’12, Alex Regan ’13 and Worcester. The group improved a great deal over the course of the season, and this final game was a testament to their efforts.

First Girls’ Soccer

Despite a 0-1 loss to Greenwich on Saturday, on the basis of an impressive 10-3-3 regular season record, the Martlets earned the #5 seed in the Class A New England Tournament and will travel to Andover, the #2 seed, on Wednesday, Nov. 17. Earlier in the week, the team had a solid 3-1 win over Pomfret. Steph Piperno ’11 scored two goals and Amanda Boulier ‘11 had a goal and an assist. The Westminster defense came up big in the second half as Captain Gaby Christman '11, Alana Carpenter '12, Margaret Berry '11 and Captain Whitney Powell '11 held Pomfret's explosive strikers in check.

Second Girls’ Soccer

The Martlets concluded their season with two wins this week. First, over Pomfret, Lily Ross ’12 scored in the first half off a nice assist from Katherine Kelter ’14, and Mal McCormick ’12 had the game winner off of a strong assist from Gaby Foti ’14. Against Hopkins, Westminster managed to earn two goals, thanks to amazing long shots from Emily Worcester '11 and Louise Marenakos '11. Kelter earned her first goal of the season by striking the ball so hard that the goalie bobbled it, and the ball went over the goal line. Ending the season 10-3-2, the Martlets benefited from the exceptional Sixth Form leadership of Captains Andrea Cross and Caitlin Fabbri, as well as Steph Werner, McCall Hawkins, Emily Worcester, Louise Marenakos and Kaleigh Kelley.

Third Girls’ Soccer

The Martlets ended their season with a phenomenal game against Miss Porter’s. Annie Lacey ’14 earned a hat trick with two penalty kick goals to solidify the 3-1 victory. It was a great way to finish for the team, which has shown so much improvement over the course of the fall.

Overall, it was a great team effort and a fitting end to a thoroughly enjoyable season with a fine group of boys.

Boys’ Cross Country

The team traveled to Berkshire School for the Division II New England meet. Emmet Shipway ’12 was in contention throughout the race for an All-New England spot, but he was just short with an 18th- place finish. Jacob Lee ’11, finishing a stellar career during which he was a First team runner for four straight years, was second for the team with a great kick. In quick succession came the surging Jake Medina ’12, newly healed Marquez Cummings ’12 and a bounding Gary Yang ’13 to finish out the scoring five; this whole group finished the demanding course under 20 minutes. Jake Cahill ’12 and Brad Gioia ’12 rounded out the varsity roster with solid runs.

Girls’ Cross Country

For their last race of the season, the Martlets headed to Berkshire for the Division II New England meet. In the final half mile, Sarah Ogden ’11 switched into a higher gear, determined to make her final race as a Martlet harrier one of her best, and finished first for the team. Molly Mullen ’13 finished seven seconds behind Ogden and Lauren Darnis ’12 was just a minute behind her; both of these underformers had tremendous seasons and will be major parts of the 2011 squad. Rounding out the scoring five were co-captain Ashley Mercede ’11, who finished her Martlet career with a strong series of races, and Lulu Spalding’12. Colette Kim ’11, who improved tremendously over her two-year career, and Julia Benson ’13 were the displacers in this race.
