Weekly Highlights—November 8

Boys’ Cross Country

Seven weeks after running at Choate, Westminster was back to test themselves on this course along with the very fast field of the Founders League athletes. On an afternoon that was picture perfect for running, the First Boys’ showed what seven weeks of hard work will do by running the course an average of two minutes faster than they did in September. Emmet Shipway '12 led the charge with an inspiring 12th place finish at the race, earning him All-Founders League honors. Jacob Lee '11 was number two for the Martlets, and Jake Medina '12, who again improved on his lifetime best on a challenging course, ran third.

Girls’ Cross Country

Seven weeks after running at Choate, Westminster was back to test themselves on this course along with the very fast field of the Founders League athletes. This team was a very different one than the one that came to Wallingford in September, as they demonstrated by running the course an average of three minutes faster than they did previously. Sarah Ogden '11 and Molly Mullen '13 both ran beautiful races, pushing each other through the entire 5K course. Ogden finished first for the Martlets, with Mullen and Lauren Darnis ’12 in pursuit.

First Girls’ Soccer

The Martlets traveled to a chilly Sheffield, Mass., and came away with a convincing 2-0 victory over the Berkshire Bears. The Black and Gold pressed the attack from the outset and scored when Leigh Anne Baldwin '11 found the left corner of the net from the 18. Five minutes later, Captain Amanda Boulier '11 connected with fellow Sixth Former Steph Piperno who ripped a shot past the Bear's goalie. Berkshire mounted only two dangerous plays off of corners, but goalie Sidney Daniels '13 was more than up to the challenge.

Second Girls’ Soccer

From the kickoff forward, the Martlets aggressively won 50/50 balls and kept the ball in the Bears' defensive end in order to deliver a 3-0 victory. Emily Worcester '11 scored twice, and Lily Ross’ 12 also had a goal. Kate Rubin '12, Steph Werner '11, and McCall Hawkins '11 all made some crucial stops to prevent the goalie, Libby Kelter '12, from too many dangerous situations.

Second Boys’ Soccer

The Martlets notched four goals in the second half to overcome a 0-1 halftime deficit to the host Bears on a very cold and blustery day in Sheffield, Mass. Scoring for the Martlets were Alex Gould '11, Tucker Brumley '11, Corey Latour’12, and Michael Ahn '11.

Third Boys’ Soccer

Westminster had two wins on the week. Third Boys' Soccer played by far their most complete game of the season, controlling play for just about the entire game against Hotchkiss. Quan Anh Luu '12 and Ryan Cholnoky '12 scored to give the Black and Gold a 2-0 victory. The Martlets played another strong game as they defeated Wilbraham and Monson 3-0. Westminster controlled play for nearly the whole game. Drew Leach '13, Ousseynou Tall '12, and Evan Yenor '13 tallied goals for the Black and Gold.

First Field Hockey

In their last home game of the season, the Martlets put all the elements together and played as a true team to defeat the Berkshire Bears 7-1. Eliza Breed ’11 and Claire Hodson ’11 had two goals in the effort, and Rachel Monroe ’14, Lindsay Hanau ’13, Hayley Ahouse ’13 notched goals as well.
