Students in Sixth Form English classes visited Hartford Oct. 28 to see the Hartford Stage’s production of William Shakespeare’s “Antony and Cleopatra.” The 116 students and eight teachers had front row seats for the two-and-half hour production of one of Shakespeare’s best-known tragedies featuring Obie Award winning actors Kate Mulgrew as Cleopatra and John Douglas Thompson as Antony.
“The first ‘act’ was fantastic, theatrical in the best sense of that word,” said Michael Cervas, head of the English Department. "It is always good to give our students the chance to experience the energy and magic of live professional theater." Students in AP English had read the play prior to seeing the production, so the performance was especially meaningful for them.
The visit was made possible through support from the Ford-Goldfarb Fund, which was established in 2005 by former trustee Maureen Ford-Goldfarb and her daughter Kirsten Ford ’00 to support English Department enrichment activities.
