The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company’s production of “Death of a Salesman” starring Christopher Lloyd will be performed at Westminster School on Oct. 12 as a part of its New England tour. There will be a private Westminster School performance during the day, which is a part of the Graham Gund ’59 Visiting Artist Series, and an evening performance at 7 p.m. for which tickets may be purchased through the Weston Playhouse at www.westonplayhouse.org or by calling (802) 824-5288.
Considered by many to be the greatest American play, Arthur Miller’s “Death of A Salesman” was an immediate critical and popular success from its Broadway premiere in 1949. The story of a common traveling salesman who fights changing times and his own failings to claim his family’s right to the American Dream has since become one of the most performed plays in modern theatrical history.
Emmy and Obie Award-winning actor Christopher Lloyd will play Loman in the Weston production. While most widely known for television and film performances such as “Taxi” and “Back to the Future,” Lloyd began his career in the theater and has built an impressive and extensive resume of stage work. He has starred on and off Broadway and at major regional theaters. He began his professional career in Weston in 1964 and last returned in 1990 to play Sherlock Holmes opposite his brother Sam.
Lloyd is joined by Amy Van Nostrand as Linda; Markus Potter as Biff; Nathan Darrow as Happy; Matt Harrington as Bernard; Munson Hicks, as Charley; Westminster alumnus Philip Kerr ’59 as Uncle Ben; David Bonanno as Howard and Stanley; Brandy Zarle as The Woman; Elizabeth Morton as Jenny and Letta; and Beth Hylton as Miss Forsythe.
“Death of a Salesman” will be directed by WPTC Resident Producing Director Steve Stettler, a member of the Westminster faculty from 1974-1980, who in recent years has directed Weston’s “The Light in the Piazza,” “A Number” and the fall tour of “Metamorphoses.” He has directed in New York, regionally on both coasts, and internationally.
