Local Poet to Give Literary Reading

Award-winning poet Ginny Lowe Connors will be the featured reader on Oct. 1 at Westminster School’s Friday Night Readings series. The series features readings given by guest writers and Westminster students on selected Fridays during the academic year. The student reader will be Sixth Former Katie Hill, the winner of the Brian Ford Writing Prize.

Connors is the author of a poetry collection, “Barbarians in the Kitchen,” and the editor of three poetry anthologies, the most recent being “Proposing on the Brooklyn Bridge: Poems About Marriage.” Her poetry has appeared in many journals and anthologies, and she was the first place winner of this year’s prestigious Sunken Garden Poetry Prize awarded by the Hill-Stead Museum. Her chapbook “Under the Porch” was published by the museum in conjunction with the prize.

In 2001, Connors was awarded first prize in the Atlanta Review's International Poetry Competition. A teacher in West Hartford, she was named "Poet of the Year" by the New England Association of Teachers of English in the fall of 2003.

The Westminster reading is free and open to the public and will take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Gund Reading Room of the Armour Academic Center.

Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the reading and ample parking will be available in the parking lot adjacent to the Armour Academic Center. Anyone wishing additional information should call (860) 784-1865.
