Students Earn Spots in Connecticut Music Festivals
Eight Westminster student musicians attended the Northern Region Music Festival auditions at Bristol High School in November. They were among hundreds of students auditioning for a spot in the choir, band, orchestra or jazz band. Each student had to perform a prepared solo and then sing or play scales and sight-read or sing for a panel of judges. Those who received the highest scores in the auditions were invited to participate in the Northern Region Music Festival in January.
Three Westminster students qualified for the Northern Region Choir: Hannah Ford '11, Tiffany Liu '10 and Eliza Mandzik '09. This was Hannah’s and Tiffany’s first time earning a spot in the choir and Eliza’s third time.
Based upon their superior audition scores, Eliza and Tiffany were also invited to audition for Connecticut’s All-State Festival Chorus, but only Eliza was able to pursue it. She auditioned at North Haven High School Feb. 7 and scored high enough to receive a coveted spot in the prestigious festival, which takes place over three days at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford the first weekend in April. This is Eliza’s second year participating in the All-State Festival Chorus.
