A Day of Difference will Focus on Diversity Issues

Westminster School will hold “A Day of Difference” April 16 where members of the Westminster community will focus on the relevance of diversity in everyone’s lives. The day will include group discussions about socioeconomic class, gender roles/sexual orientation, race and stereotypes led by student facilitators from the Fifth and Sixth Forms. There also will be numerous activities and visual presentations and both student and faculty portions of the day.

Kip Fulbeck, a professor of art at the University of California, Santa Barbara, slam poet and filmmaker, will be the keynote speaker in the morning. He has been featured on CNN, MTV and PBS, and has performed and exhibited in more than 20 countries. He speaks nationally on identity, multiraciality and pop culture, mixing together spoken word, stand-up comedy, political activism and personal stories.

Kierra Jones ’09, president of MSU, and Melinda Wright, director of Multicultural Affairs and associate director of Admissions, have worked hard to plan the day with the assistance of Tiffany Liu '10, Nico Barragán '09, Nabi Hassanzoy '10, Oliver DeClue '09 and Margaret Miller '10.
