Hundreds of Martlets Turn Out for Reunion 2008 (cont.)

Later in the morning, everyone assembled in Andrews Memorial Chapel, where Headmaster Graham Cole welcomed alumni and their families to reunion, and Tim Robinson’85, P’10 inducted members of the Sixth Form into the alumni body. This was followed by a memorial service led by Alan Brooks ’55 for 14 alumni who died during the past year.

Johns Winship ’48 and his wife, Ann, and Art Hendrick ’48 and his wife, Peggy, led the grand march of alumni and their families from the chapel to the reunion tent on the field next to the Sherwin Health and Athletic Center — a new location this year due to the construction of the new academic center. Following class pictures, everyone had a chance to enjoy lunch and continue visiting with their former classmates. Three unexpected guests arrived late for lunch and caught everyone’s attention. A mother bear and her two cubs wandered over to the Timken Student Center just as alumni and their families were walking to the Werner Centennial Center to attend Headmaster Cole’s presentation about the new academic center.

The beautiful spring day ended with more than 300 people dining and dancing under the reunion tent and three classes being recognized for their giving records. The Class of 1958 raised enough money to name a classroom in honor of their classmate, the Class of 1978 broke the 30th reunion giving record and the Class of 1998 broke the 10th reunion giving and participation records. Recognition was also given to the Class of 2003 for meeting the Young Alumni Challenge of 60 percent giving to the Annual Fund.
